After living on the street of New York City for over a decade, Logan Ellis admits her perceptions might be a little skewed. But twisted or not, there’s a satisfying irony in watching a well dressed vampire stand in the middle of a ghetto alley, windblown trash scrapping small circles near his feet. What she finds even more intriguing, is waiting for him to decide whether or not he’s going to kill her.
Kerestyan Nelek hasn't quite made up his mind. As the Lord of New York, he can't allow a homeless drug addict, whose memories are packed with knowledge of vampiric existence, to run free in his city. It's not the first time he's been in this situation with a human, it's just the first time in thousands of years he's come face to face with one who doesn't seem to care. And that's what makes the decision so damn difficult.
What horrors would you have to witness before you went numb? How many years would it take for you to feel that way? What would it take to make you care again?
Logan's answers are simple: the worst humanity has to offer, almost thirty...and something she never expected.
I first read Eternal Seduction in 2009 after I saw a few posts about it in one of my Shelfari groups. I loved it so much that I looked up the author to find out if she had any more books out and found that she was writing a second book in the series, Eternal Hearts. After a lot of work on Ms. Turner’s part to get EH published it is finally being released June 1, 2011. So I decided to do a re-read of ES to refresh my memory on the characters and the developing plot since the main character of EH is introduced in Eternal Seduction.
This is not your usual paranormal romance where the human heroine tries to save the brooding thousands-year-old vampire. Logan is the one that has lost her connection with humanity and Kerestyan is the one that still has faith in humanity and can still see the beauty in the world around him.
Logan is so not the typical, make men fall at her feet, gorgeous woman that you see in most romance books. She’s a dirty, sarcastic, homeless, heroin addicted. And when the book starts she is stealing an old lady’s purchase. (No spoilers! But once you read this scene it’s actually a funny.) Even though Logan comes off as a not so loveable heroine, she is humorous and brave character. She knows that the choices she made in her life are what put her where she is now.
Now Kerestyan is a little truer to form as the vampire in this book. He is a dark, brooding, and sexy. And as the Lord of New York City he is very powerful. While Kerestyan is very protective but never domineering with Logan. He realizes that she is in his world not by her accord and he tries to give her as many choices as possible.
After some pretty steamy scenes between Logan and Kerestyan, (I’ll never look at a refrigerator the same way), they start to form a bond. Kerestyan starts falling in love with Logan and he knows that she cares for him even if she won’t admit to herself.
The two main characters are great and really grow through the story and make you care about them and want to see them happy together. And like a lot of great books there are also wonderful secondary characters.
There are a few in Eternal Seduction like Trinity, Keyrestyan’s blood sister, Syn, the wolf and Drake. But the one that really stands out for me was Odin, Keyerestyan’s twin brother. He is the total opposite of his brother. He and Logan have some awesome back and forward love/hate moments. She calls him a Renaissance Reject and a Tin Can after she meets him in his battle armor. He comes back with comments like, “You brought one home that can still talk?” and my favorite, “No! Don’t feed it. It’ll never leave!”.
Jennifer Turner has taken paranormal romance and made it twisted with great dark humor and loveable characters that are believable.
I really enjoyed this book both times I read it and I can’t wait to start reading the second book in the series, Eternal Hearts (release date June 1, 2011).
