Toni Tutoro just wants to go home. Banned from Chicago’s vampiric society after cutting a swath of violence through the city, she must now successfully complete an investigation for the Lord of Chicago to regain the right to live in her hometown again.
To ensure Toni’s safety during her probationary period, Drake Black, a feared assassin, is secretly contracted to protect her. Even with direct orders to keep his relationship professional, and his own personal vow to never get involved with a female vampire again, Drake finds himself drawn to Toni in ways he can’t explain. But unbeknownst to him, he’s tied to one of the people who drove Toni to her night of destruction.
Drake’s heritage holds the key to Toni’s survival and success, but will she be able to forgive his connection to the brutal night that robbed her of those she loved most? Will Drake be able to forget the betrayals in his past and risk taking one more chance? But most of all, can they find a way to reach each other in the darkness?

Review:
Jennifer Turner has done it again, I could not put down Eternal Hearts. The second installment in Darkness Within series had just as much humor and amazing characters as the first one, Eternal Seduction.

EH had a different feel than ES. Were as ES dealt more with relationships and internal battles and the secret world of vampires, Eternal Hearts had more action and a "mystery" to solve.

There was a lot of connecting the dots from the first book to the second and I just know I'll have more "a-ha!" moments while reading the 3rd book, Eternal Embrace (release date TBA). I love it when an author feeds you pieces of a larger puzzle through out a series. It keeps the story exciting and has you coming back for more.

In Eternal Hearts the heroine, Toni, is a fledgling vampire that was kicked out of her home town of Chicago when she broke some of Lord Christian's rules. Toni has been on the run ever since, and after 3 years of running she is ready to come home to face what she did.

On the night of Toni's return is meets Drake, a super sex assassin. But since Toni is young and has been gone for a few years she has no clue who Drake is and how dangerous he can be.

Drake is given a contract on Toni but it's a protection instead of kill contract. He only has to protected her long enough for her to make her meeting with the Lord of Chicago. Should be easy enough, but if it was that easy this would be a very short book.

The time table for Toni's meeting with the Lord is pushed back leaving her and Drake to spend more time together. And things start to heart up between the two. Drake tries his best to keep their relationship on the professional level. Especially since Drake doesn't trust many vampires, particularly the female kind. But he starts realizing Toni is like no other woman he has ever met before, vampire or not.

After the two get close a secret that Drake was keeping from Toni threatens to put a stop to their romance and Drake finds himself in a place he has never been in before, in love.

While the romance is put on hold for a little bit Toni finds herself in the middle of an investigation she must work on for the Lord if she wants to stay in Chicago.

After a few life threatening and heartbreaking scenes Tonie and Drake's story wraps up pretty nicely and there is some great lead in to the next installment in the series.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes paranormal/urban fantasy genre. This is book is dark but has LOL moments, a touching romance between Toni and Drake and awesome side characters like Clint, Derek, Oktober and there is even an appearance made by Odin (sigh, I love Odin).

My Rating: 4.5

Remember able quotes:

“There aren’t any cobwebs on my dick. Besides, just because I don’t stick it in every woman who walks by, doesn’t mean I don’t use it. I’m selective, where as you…you’re just a man whore.” - Derek

“I am not a whore! Just because I happen to love women, and they love me back – doesn’t make me a whore.” “Maybe it’s your dusty penis that scares women away.” - Clint

Next in the series....

Eternal Embrace
Book 3
Release Date: TBA
Lydia Vincent finds little worth in anyone or anything, save herself and her ability to see the truth in everything. At least, what she perceives to be true. She's not looking for love, not looking for acceptance, and she certainly doesn't need some man messing up her life.
Forced to endure a malevolent ritual thousands of years ago, Oktober sees the world through the jaded eyes of a predator. He's a cold-blooded killer, whose only use for humans is food. But he’s about to get the shock of his immortal life – because the one human who won't fall to the curse of his blood – is the one woman who doesn't want a damn thing to do with him.
When the rise of an Ancient enemy lures Oktober and Lydia together, can Oktober ignore the dark instincts urging him to kill her? Can Lydia put her past behind her and find a way to accept Oktober as he is? Can destiny withstand two people who'll fight it to the bitter end...even if it means dying?

  3. I am seriously in love with this series, I just finished Eternal Seduction and Logan was like any heroine I ever read before and I devoured the book and right now I am really enjoying Drake and Toni but I would love to see Odin have a book I so love him.
