URBAN FANTASY REVIEW: Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews

Magic Slays
by Ilona Andrews
Narrated by Renée Raudman
Series: Kate Daniels #5
RATING: ★★★★

Plagued by a war between magic and technology, Atlanta has never been so deadly. Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job.

Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Merciful Aid, but she’s still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be—now that the Order is disparaging her good name, and many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate’s mate.

So when Atlanta’s premier Master of the Dead calls to ask for help with a vampire on the loose, Kate leaps at the chance of some paying work. Turns out this is not an isolated incident, and Kate needs to get to the bottom of it—fast, or the city and everyone dear to her might pay the ultimate price.

REVIEW:

Kate and the gang are back and it's bloodier than ever with the war between magic and tech in full swing. Kate really tests her magical power in Magic Slays. You thought she was bad ass before? She is only getting better with each book.

"Hell was driving a blood-soaked van listening to two children dying in the backseat, while Grendel whined as if something were killing him."

What would Kate Daniels' book be without blood, gore and someone trying to kill her? Please that’s just another Tuesday for Kate.

Kate is dealing with a lot of changes in her personal and professional life. She is no longer working for The Order; she and Andrea open up a P.I. business together. Then there’s the whole learning how what it means to be the mate to Curran and helping him run the pack. And let’s not forget Kate’s daughter-like teen, Julie.

Things start of slow in the P.I. department until Kate and Andrea get their first case. Danger is around every corner solving that one.

Kate finds herself being a full time mother to Julie since her school kicked her out.

I love the fact that Kate and Curran doesn’t act like some old married couple. They are still kicking each other’s asses when it’s called for. They are a true team; they don’t back down from each other but they totally support each other.

“Yes I can,” Curran snarled. “Listen: this is me telling you what you will not do.”
I raised the cookbook and tapped him on the nose. Bad cat.”

Magic Slays is in true Kate Daniels form; it a must read for fans of the series. If you have not tried the series you really should if you like Urban Fantasy series with a really strong heroine. Andrews has built a very interesting world and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
