Review: Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas

Smooth Talking Stranger
by Lisa Kleypas
(Travises #3)
Narrated by Emily Durante

Billionaire playboy, and all-around ladies’ man, Jack Travis has a reputation as big as the state of Texas. He drives too fast, lives too hard, and loves too many women to count.

In her advice column, and her love life, Ella Varner is always practical. So when she’s left holding her reckless sister’s baby, she decides to ask Jake Travis to take a paternity test.

Ella is instantly struck by Jake’s bold good looks and easy charm—but she’s not falling for his sweet talk. This big sexy tomcat needs to take responsibility for his actions, and Ella’s making him stick to his word. Now if she can only ignore the unspoken attraction that smolders between them…

REVIEW:

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. Lisa Kleypas is now one of my favorite authors. She is a great way to ease into the Contemporary Romance world.

I would have to say that Smooth Talking Stranger is tie with Blue-Eyed Devil as my favorite in the trilogy.

One thing that sets the Travises trilogy apart from other romance books I’ve read is that the female leads are the ones that have the messed up pasts. And the men are the ones that “fix” the women. Oh sure the guys are alpha types but they have to learn to be a little softer to help out their women.

Ella had a rough childhood being raised by a mother that was no mother at all. Her mother was and is nothing but a gold digger than thinks she needs a man and that the man in her life comes before her two daughters. And after growing up with Ella’s mother’s failed marriages and tons of failed relationships, Ella wants nothing to do with marriage.

Ella has her life turned up side down when she receives a phone call from mother, telling her that her little sister has dropped off her baby son….. A baby that neither of them knew she had.

Ella being the one in the family to fix things goes to pick up the baby and when she tries to track down the baby's father she meets Jack Travis.

Jack is a very sexy and very rich, man’s man. The type of man that Ella avoids but after Jack helps her with her search to find her MIA sister and the father of the baby the two become close.

“One glance and I knew exactly who and what he was. The classic alpha male, the kind who had spurred evolution forward about five million years ago by nailing every female in sight. They charmed, seduced, and behaved like bastards, and yet women were biologically incapable of resisting their magic DNA.”

Jack is very thing that Ella needs even if she doesn’t want to admit it. The budding relationship between the two is very hot and steamy and yet sweet at moments too. If you are sucker for a southern alpha then you need to read Smooth Talking Stranger.

Narration Note: I thought that Emily Durante did a great job with the narration but I didn’t completely like her voice for Jack. It sounds too forced at times but over all it was an enjoy listen.
