What the Feck?! (WTF?!)
Is a new feature here at The Book Nympho.
Every Monday we will post a book related topic
that had us thinking WTF?! while reading a book
or talking to others in the book community.

Books to Movies
Which ones are you excited about?
by Jennifer (aka The Book Nympho)

There are TONS of books making it to the big screen in 2013 and beyond. This week let's talk about the ones we are dying to see (or have seen already).

I saw Warm Bodies when it came out.
I did not compare it to the book since I didn't read it.
I enjoyed it for the campy zombie movie it was. It was like Romeo & Juliet but zombie style. I'd love to hear from those of you that read and watched the movie.

I've not read or seen Beautiful Creatures.
After seeing the first teaser for this one I had no desire to read or watch it.

March 29, 2013

Like many, I jumped on The Host during my Twilight reading days. I enjoyed the book well enough but it was not on my re-read list. I liked the idea of the world but some of the characters were lacking. I've not been excited about the idea of a movie but the more I see it the more I'm curious about it. So yes I'll go see it.

August 23, 2013

I'm not a huge fan of YA but I've been thinking about reading The Immortal Instruments series but I really don't think I will. I have too many other books on my TBR that I want to get to this year. So I'm going to see the movie instead. After seeing the trailer for the first time I'm really excited about being introduced to the world.

November 23, 2013

This is a no brainer!! I'm only pissed that we have to wait til November 22 to see it.
I've read the trilogy and LOVED it. IMO this is the best book to a movie I've seen in years.
It was so good that it made my husband read the book after we saw it.

Other books to movie I can't wait to try when they hit the big screen:
  • Oz the Great and Powerful (release date March 8, 2013)
  • World War Z (releas date June 21, 2013)
  • The Hobbit - Part two (release date December 13, 2013)
  • Vampire Academy (read) (release date February 14, 2014)
  • The Girl Who Played With Fire (not read but loved 1st movie) (release date ??)
  • The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest (not read but loved 1st movie) (release date ??)
  • Incarceron (read) (release date ??)
  • Daughter of Smoke and Bone (on my TBR) (release date ??)
  • The Forest of Teeth and Handes (on my TBR) (release date 2013??)
  • Legend (on my TBR) (release date 2013??)

Release dates per IMDB not sure if they are true.

What books will have you running to the theaters to see if the movie can live up to the book?

How has the movies that have already been released this year lived up to their book counterparts?

  1. I'm really excited about The Host. I actually like that book much more then her Twilight series and can't wait for her second book which has taken forever for her to read. I'm also frothing at the mouth for World War Z -- go zombies and now that the casting for Vampire Academy is coming out I'm getting excited -- check that date BTW -- you freaked me out with it. I'll be dead! LOL ;)

    1. Oops. Got to love typos. LOL

Yeah I can't wait for VA.

Have you read WWZ? My husband has and he said based on the trailer the zombies are not like in the book.

  2. I can't wait for The Host. I loved the book, I'm worried about how well it will translate to the big screen. I'm also a big fan of The Girl with the Dragon book series. I really like the first movie. Can't wait to see the next two. Also, they made movies in Sweden. You can see them on Netflix with subtitles. I enjoyed those a lot too, but you have to be able to read the subtitles. You can't so anything else while watching or you'll miss reading something.

  3. The Hobbit! Part one was really good and I didn't think I'd ever say this about one of the dwarfs in these movies but Thorin was yuuuuumy :-)

  4. I loved The Host, so I'm looking forward to the movie. From the trailers I've seen it looks like it's gonna be a good one. I've enjoyed reading Warm Bodies, but haven't seen the movie yet. Love the Beautiful Creatures book, but was so disappointed in the movie. They changed a lot or left stuff out. Can't wait to see Catching Fire, it's just too bad it doesn't come out until November.

  5. I loved Immortal Instruments series, and I'm really looking forward to that one. The Host was a DNF for me, so maybe I'll watch the movie. I liked Beautiful Creatures, but not enough to rush to the theater.
What I'm thrilled about is the Outlander (not a movie) I can't wait to watch the mini-series!!!

  6. what? Legend?! I am so shocked.. as for The Host, it is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE books. I have reread it countless times so I am a bit scared in regards to the movie (don't need another twilight movie disaster).

Also I know they sold the movie rights for Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi, hopefully that will pan out b/c that would be an awesome movie.
