What the Feck (WTF): Rereads, Do you?

Every Monday we will post a book related topic

Rereads: Do you ever reread a
book or series?
by Jennifer (The Book Nympho)

After reading Carmel's post over at Rabid Reads about Favorites I knew I had to talk about my favorites that I've reread, especially since I just reread one of my favorites for the 3rd time.

In the post Carmel states that after rereading some of her favorites that they no longer hold that title the second time around.

I've reread two series so far.....

Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost

Back in 2011 I reread books 1-4 in preparation for book 5. Every one of the books was still on my favorite list and held the same ratings.

Halfway to the Grave - 5 stars
One Foot in the Grave - 5 stars
At Grave's End - 5 stars
Destined for an Early Grave - 5 stars

After rereading Halfway to the Grave (ok I listened to it this time around) for a 3rd time it's still at the top of my favorite list and still 5 stars. And I'm jonesing to reread book 2.

Fever series by Karen Marie Moning

I've reread Fever series two times. Once I read it and then I listened to it. STILL FAVORITE. I actually liked book 1, Darkfever better the second time around.

I will most likely do a 3rd reread of Fever before this year is over or at the every least a reread of Iced before the new book comes out later this year.

Now it's time to talk about a reread that left me rethinking a favorite series....

Twilight series by Stephanie Meyers

Like many people, Twilight got me into reading. I was a Twilight junkee, reading the books, watching the movies.

I decided to do a reread of the series before Eclipse came out at the movies since it was my favorite book of the series.

I reread Twilight and thought meh the 2nd time but I went on to reread New Moon. First time around I was crying like a baby when Edward left Bella. Second time I was thinking, FECK him, he left go have some sexy times with the wolf boy.

I KNEW I was NOT rereading Breaking Dawn. After that too perfect ending I wanted to throw the books the 1st time around. But after rereading Twilight and New Moon, I didn't even make it to rereading Eclipse

This is one series that was a favorite of mine that is no longer on that list. They were great at one time but I've just out grown them as a reader. I even gave away my hardback copies to a friend so she can add them to her school library. I know I'll never attempt another reread. I have all the movies so if I feel like revisiting that world I'll take the easy way out and watch the movies.

My future rereads......

Downside Ghosts series by Stacia Kane

I LOVE this series and I WILL reread this series in the near future. Will it still be on my favorite list with 5 star ratings? If I had to guess the answer is HELL YES.

Poison Princess by Kresley Cole

I'm not a huge fan of YA but Cole's Poison Princess just blew me way. I'm going to relisten to the audio to get ready for the next book later this year.

Do you reread books/series?
What book/series have you reread the most?
Do they still hold the same space in your heart?

  1. Actually, the one series I have re-read is Twilight... and I'm like you, it wasn't really a favorite anymore after I read it once more. You're also stronger than me, I only made it through Twilight, not even New Moon before I just told myself to be grateful I had found a series that brought me back to reading in the first place :)

    Great WTF this week!

  2. The books I go back to regularly when I need a pick me up are Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion. I just love those books.

  3. The only series I re-read was twilight and same thing happened to me. Second time around I couldn't find what once appealed to me.
What I'm doing nowadays is not re-reading but listening to the audiobook. It's a completely different experience from reading and usually with the audiobook it feels almost as a new book. I did that with Outlander (first and second book of the series) and I'm planing to do it with The Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop.

    1. That's what I did with the Fever series. The second time around I did them on audio. I'm so glad I read them 1st. The narrator for books 1-3 would have turned me off of the series if I had not. But once they got female and male narrators of the others it was all good.

  4. Probably Harry Potter LOL! I do re-read a lot. I guess I figure if I pay for it I might as well get my money back.

    1. I've read books 1-3 and then stopped. I figured I knew what happens since I've watched all them movies and didn't feel the need to read the rest.

But my husband reread the serie many times.

  5. I've done tons of rereads, especially if you include audio. I've done a lot of reading the book and then going back and listening to it. I've also done on actual rereads of series that I've loved or didn't have audio.

    My series rereads include:
Anita Blake - Laurell K Hamilton
Merry Gentry - Laurell K Hamilton
    Mercy Thompson - Patricia Briggs
    Kate Daniels - Ilona Andrews
    The Edge - Ilona Andrews
    Downside Ghosts - Stacia Kane
Night Huntress (and spinoffs) - Jeaniene Frost
    The Hollows - Kim Harrison
Black Dagger Brotherhood - J.R. Ward
Women of the Otherworld - Kelley Armstrong (these are hard on audio, because there is a new narrator for each book)
White Trash Zombie - Diana Rowland

    Most recently - Psy/Changeling - Nanlini Singh

    1. I've been thinking about doing a reread of Antia (the early books before the orgies) if my library has them in audio I'll do. I've already reread book 1 in graphic novel format and loved it.

Your list has some great series. I wouldn't mind rereading a few of them but I have since a HUGE TBR that I try not to reread too many just because of time.

  6. I've reread twilight a bunch of times, and the mortal instruments series and loved them both just as much as the first time around. I plan to read the Kate Daniels series again but since I got them from the library the first time around I'm going to have to buy them for my collection first. I also want to reread all the sookie stackhouse novels, though i'll probably liten to the audiobooks. I also absolutely have to reread the Telesa Series by Lani Wendt Young and all the books by Karina Halle. Too freaking Awesome!

  7. I agree with the Twilight series not having the same punch the second time around. I haven't reread a bunch of my books, but I did enjoy rereading Jennifer Armentrout's The Turning series. It was just as good the second time around for me.

    1. I really enjoyed Armentrout's series. I've been thinking of doing them on audio.

  8. I think I've reread the Fever series a total of 3 times, except for ICED. We should reread them this year together!

    1. After your Fever questions it seems I need to reread them again. LOL
Still have those two questions bugging me.

    2. I'll do a fever series re-read with you guys. I'm always up for a re-read. I listened to Iced, so I could definitely go for a re-listen. Audio never sticks as good as print for me... Book Savvy Babe

    3. Deal! The next book is due out in October, right? We can do a reread/relisten of the series (or just Iced) this fall.

  9. I've re-read the Downside Ghosts several times, listened on audio once and actually read the books at least twice. I love them more each time. Currently slowly going through the Experiment in Terror books again by Karina Halle, but with the other books I am reading it is not a fast venture. I've also read Angelfall by Susan Ee several times. And am about to start it again :-)

  10. Never. I've never looked at a book and even considered a reread. I do take notes when I read. I have read my notes before going into the next book in a series. I've even referenced my notes when something changed out of the blue.

    1. Before I become a reader I always thought, why would someone reread a book? They know what happens. But I find that rereading my favorites I catch things I didn't the time before. Ok if it's been a long time I feel like I'm reading for the 1st time. Yeah I remember the big things in the plot but I forget all the small things.

I now use "will I ever reread this book" as my rule for keeping my print books. If I know I won't they get traded/sold/giveaway.

  11. I wish I had more time for rereads but, I don't do it at all anymore because of it. I used to though before I had tons of books on my TBR.

I have reread Twilight, but still loved them. They have a special place in my heart, I don't care what anyone else says. LOL

BDB- tons of rereads before about Lover Mine.

IAD's Demon from the Dark, Malkolm my all-time favorite!!! :D

  12. The only series I've re-read is the In Death series (three times!) by J. D. Robb. I finally had to stop myself. Now, I have so many books on my TBR, it will be tough to re-read anything anytime soon.

    2. I did the three re-reads when the count was 35 books. Still....

  13. I'm always doing a re-listen. Every time some makes a mention of how much thye have enjoyed an old favorite of mine I feel the need to re-visit. I never revisit Twilight after the first few months after I discovered, but I did listen to it like 3 times within that period of time, I was NUTS!NUTS! I tell you...LOL

  14. I've re-read the fever series, the night huntress, the sookie stackhouse (at least the earlier books). I've read Shadowfever muliiple times now, I also re-read the Vampire Academy series, and I will reluctantly admit that I re-read twilight, but that was before I really started getting into more reading. The night huntress series, especially books 1 and 2 are some of my FAVORITES! I've read bared to you by sylvia day multiple times...I re-read books that I really really love. they are 5 stars for a reason for me :) Book Savvy Babe

  15. I love reread my favorite series! However the Fever series is a really dangerous one for me. No matter which book I start with, I always end up wanting to read them all. I once tried to read only Shadowfever and I ended up reading all 5, in reverse :)

  16. I use to re-read books but after blogging I just haven't had the time. I did re-read The Host not too long ago since the movie was coming out. I remember the first time I wasn't all that impressed with it but this time around I loved it!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I used to re-read books all the time, I would actually read the whole series before a new book came out. But that was before I discovered blogs and found so many new to me books that I want to read. Now, it would take a really special book/series for me to re-read them.

  18. I re-read often. I agree that Twilight lost it's appeal. It started my love of reading but since then I've read hundreds of books and most of them are much better. My favorite re-reads are the Cassie Palmer series by Karen Chance, The Pride series by Shelly Laurenston and, Poison Princess by Kresley Cole.

  19. I don't usually let myself reread with so many books & series waiting to be read for the first time. I am going to do some rereading this year.

I reread the Twilight series too. I still enjoyed it & appreciated it for what it was. But yes, there are many other series that are better.

  20. Do I reread series? Yes, I do. It does depend on the series though. I've reread/re-listened to... BDB, Night Huntress (and spin-offs), Sookie Stackhouse, The Blood Curse Series...

I will do (am planning on it) a reread/re-listen to... Vampire Queen Series, The Kiera Hudson Series by Tim O'Rourke, Indigo Court Series, Fever Series, BDB (again), Sookie Stackhouse (again), Lords of Deliverance, Lords of The Underworld, Night Huntress (again) to name a few. I think I will always do a reread/re-listens to these series. They will always have a place on my favorites list and heart.
Another awesome WTF post! :D I really do love these posts!
