Story Time: Mother's Day Edition

It's been a while since my last Story Time post, so I figured what better time do to one that for Mother's Day. Wither you're a big time reader or not. Or you just don't have enough time in the day to enjoy a great book we've all read those bedtime stories as mother's.

First let me start with...

Now that has been thrown out, let me tell ya what I've been doing in the kiddo reading world. Not much. I'm sad to say I've not read any new books lately with my son. He's been into using his LeapFrog Tag system he got two Christmas ago.

He's been reading ...

But we did see a new movie since my last post...

The Croods (2013)
98 min - Animation | Adventure | Comedy
PG13
Directors: Kirk De Micco, Chris Sanders
Writers: Chris Sanders (screenplay), Kirk De Micco (screenplay)
Stars: Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds

I went into the movie with no expectations what so ever. I figure it would be a way to kill some time on a rainy day. And I was very surprised at how much I liked it. It had me laughing for about 80% of the time.

We saw it in 3D so that was fun. It was one of those 3D movies that you didn't realize you were watching it in 3D. By that I mean they didn't do any of those lame throwing stuff at you.

The story line was good and the acting was great. It's the best Nicolas Cage movie I've seen in a decade or longer (LOL). There was a runny joke where the dad kept hoping that his mother in law was dead after each deadly threat from animals and other things.

The Croods was a like a funny moderen day Flintstones. The Croods will be making to our Blu-Ray buying list for the holiday season later this year.

I mad a trip to Hastings (think smaller scale Best Buy with books) yesterday after hearing they are closing my local location. I first thought was UGH not another bookstore closing. My second thought was, score, maybe I can get cheap Wii games and/or books.

It was a no go on the Wii games. All those items are full price and will stay that way. They will ship what they don't sell to other stores.

New books are only 10% off and they are starting to take them off the shelves to ship to other stores. So that leaves the used books, which is 30% off. But after looking in all the genres I would read they didn't have anything for me. So I took a look in the children's section.

Score!

I grabbed a "few" books to start a mid-grade library for my son. I figure even if they don't interest him in a year or two when he can read them, I can donate them to the public or school library.

Take a look at what I got.

Rick Wacky Wobbler is for DH's Bday. Ssh don't tell.

Half-Minute Horrors by multi authors like Neil Gaiman, James Patterson and more
Flesh of the Zombie (Scream Street #4) by Tommy Donbavand
Claw of the Werewolf (Scream Street #6) by Tommy Donbavand
A Boy Called M.O.U.S.E. by Penny Dolan
The Dragons of Ordinary Farm (Ordinary Farm Adventures #1) by Tad Williams, Deborah Beale, Greg Swearingen (Illustrator)
Dragon Moon (Dragonkeeper #3) by Carole Wilkinson
Puddlejumpers by Mark Jean, Christopher C. Carlson
Dandelion Fire (100 Cupboards #2) by N.D. Wilson
The Chestnut King (100 Cupboards #3) by N.D. Wilson
Attack of the Vampire Weenies and Other Warped and Creepy Tales by David Lubar
The Ogre Of Oglefort by Eva Ibbotson
Tollins: Explosive Tales for Children by Conn Iggulden, Lizzy Duncan (Illustrator)

These were all labeled used books but they all looked like brand new books and most were hardback. For my total purchase (books, Rick and two bags of gummy worms) it was only $85. I saved $134 by buy used books vs. new books. Granted I would not have bough these books if they were not on sale so did I really save money? LOL

But when you have a kiddo that loves books like my should to be 7 year old does you have to keep them interested with new stories. So I see it as an invested in his future of reading love and book hoarding. LOL

  1. I think you've already busted your book buying budget because of RT and now this... Oh well, there are worst things that you can spend your money on!

    1. Yeah I figure it's for the child, why not. LOL

The only books I want for the summer are on audio so I'll just use credits and no money. So it balances out.
