A witch raised in a cage of darkness...

Savannah Cross was born into a life of isolation and abuse. As a child, she witnessed her parents perform acts of malevolent evil, and now feels permanently tainted by their dark deeds.

When a coven discovers a tear stricken child, wounded on their elders lawn, they offer her a sanctuary she has never known. Savannah spends the next several years shattered, continuously looking over her shoulder, waiting for the darkness to claim her.

On her 16th birthday, Savannah’s life takes a drastic turn. She is consumed by overwhelming power that forever alters her emotionally and physically.

She must choose between two loves; the one who taught her to smile or the darkly seductive stranger who tempts her towards another path. Savannah must decide between the coven that was her haven and another one vying for her initiation. Just as Savannah begins to grasp what fate has in store for her, an evil looms over her loved ones; coming to claim an unbreakable debt.

How will she choose and survive the greatest evil she has ever witnessed... long enough to have a choice to make.

REVIEW:

Caged in Darkness starts by recounting Savannah's dark childhood through journal writings. Then we get to see how she has made a home with her new adoptive family, Maye and Ash.

While most books are written from the First, Second or Third Person Point of View; Stroube took a different route and wrote Caged in Darkness in Alternating Person View, which I think really helped with the telling of the story through more than one character's POV.

Within each chapter there is a "sub-title" that outlines who's POV you are reading. The POV moves between Savannah, Ash and Liam's views. And since there is a love triangle of sorts between the three characters you get to see how Savannah feels about both guys and how they feel about her. Which in my opinion brings a lot of questions to mind when you get to the end of the story and learn a shocking fact about Savannah's love for them.

Savannah's relationships with her friends Izzy and Willow is totally believable. They are the stereotypically group of outcast kids in high school. Savannah and Willow are witchlings and Izzy is there human friend that knows their secret about being witches.

I've only read a few other books with witches and Caged in Darkness has a completely new type of witch. There are some physical characteristics that made me think of other paranormal creatures (vampires and shapeshifters).

Witches are not the only supernatural creatures; there are also Hellhounds, an Archdemon and mentions of Angels and Demons.

Stroube leaves a few loose ends in Cage in Darkness which I can only speculate is a set up to the plot in the next books in the Cage series.

I found Caged in Darkness a fast and enjoyable read and would recommend it to anyone that is a fan of Young Adult Paranormal. I would say that Caged in Darkness leans more toward the Urban Fantasy than Romance even though there is a element of romance between some of the characters.
