Review: Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble by H.P. Mallory

Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble
by H.P. Mallory
Jolie Wilkins Series #1
Urban Fantasy
Published 10/6/2010
★★★ 1/2

Life isn't bad for psychic Jolie Wilkins. True, she doesn't have a love life to speak of, but she has a cute house in the suburbs of Los Angeles, a cat and a quirky best friend. Enter Rand Balfour, a sinfully attractive warlock who insists she's a witch and who just might turn her life upside down. Rand hires her to help him solve a mystery regarding the death of his client who also happens to be a ghost. Jolie not only uncovers the cause of the ghost's demise but, in the process, she brings him back to life! Word of Jolie’s incredible ability to bring back the dead spreads like wildfire, putting her at the top of the underworld’s most wanted list. Consequently, she finds herself at the center of a custody battle between a villainous witch, a dangerous but oh-so-sexy vampire, and her warlock boss, Rand.

REVIEW:

Jolie Wilkins is a witch...but she doesn't know it, at least not yet.

Rand is a powerful and handsome warlock who is interested in seeing just kind of power Jolie has.

After helping Rand with a ghost and accidentally bringing said ghost back to life, Jolie is now the number one witch on everyone's list (good and bad). She is soon caught up in world she never knew existed, complete with vampires, werewolves, fairies, and more. She also a pawn, many want to use her gift to bring back those they have lost, or someone they want - Enter Bella, the mean witch who is after Jolie for selfish reasons.

Through out the book, a war is brewing and Jolie must learn how to use her powers and defend herself all the while, trying not fall in love with Rand. Jolie's character is innocent and kind, but she can make you crack a smile. Over the course of the book, she does evolve and I enjoy books with character development.

This was a fun, easy read. The world that Mallory has created is colorful and the characters are engaging. The down side, I thought the ending was little abrupt. It is not a cliffhanger, but I have already added the following books to my Nook.

If you like fast, sweet reads be sure to check out this series.

  1. I really enjoyed Fire Burn, but Mallory's Dulcie O'Neal series is by far my favorite! I've found her books to all be quick, fun reads although I don't think they're quite as light as the covers suggest!

  2. I read these first 2 books a while ago and really enjoyed them. But she got published with her 3rd book and I could not get into it. It went over all the info we got in her first 2 books I just got so bored and gave up. I use to love this series more, but now I am a Dulcie fan.

Sorry for the ramble anyways Great Review.
