What influenced you to get published? How long did it take for your first book to get published?
Not what but more like who. My husband first, I am an avid reader of romance. Other things I could take it or leave it but I inhale romance books. When I started telling my husband my ideas after reading books about where I thought the story was going just by the back blurb, my husband told me to write. Then I read a book by Bridget Midway, Fascination Street and it was the first time that I'd read an erotica. I was used to the dime store porn that my friends passed around in college and I thought it was smut. After reading that book by BM I realized there could be romance and high levels of sex and it turn out to be a great read, I wanted to take my writing to the next level. It only took me a few months to get my erotica published after submitting to Phaze my story Santa’s Helper. I followed that up two months later with my first BDSM, Speed Dating.
What makes your characters so vulnerable yet strong? Can you describe them to us? What do you do when characters stop talking to you when writing?
Sure, Book Nympho. Life allows me to make my characters vulnerable. I was a counselor for almost 14 years. Amazingly, a lot of people come in for relationship problems. Some simple and some very bizarre. I also watch couples, how they act, both good and bad. When they think people are looking and when they believe no one is watching. There has to be a balance of good things to make a story combined with the bad things to add to the conflict. I love doing stories about characters that are restrained by some kind of rule, structure or standards; things that make a person ripe for someone to come along and help them break out of the mold. When characters stop talking I listen to music or watch a movie. Something related in theme or emotions to what my characters are going through and that usually gets them going; either agreeing with what the character on television did or disagreeing. Then I just say, "Show me what you can do." My characters love a challenge.
Could you tell us a couple of favorite authors that inspire or you love reading?
Well, I already mentioned one, but Kate Pearce, Cherise Sinclair, Jess Michaels, Aliyah Burke and Sienna Mynx. However, I had to learn that each of those authors have their own set of writing rules and craftsmanship that wasn't mine. I had to find my own voice and style. That came by going to a lot of workshops and getting involved in a critique group in the beginning of my writing. I had to understand the industry rules before I could break them. LOL.
Let’s talk about your holiday BDSM stories. What inspires you to write them?
First of all, I LOVE Christmas. I could celebrate it all year. When I write a story, usually June and November, for Christmas in July and December, I’m pumping holiday music in my headphones. It gets me in the mood for the season of the story. The BDSM theme was something that I was truly passionate about. After going to my first munch and being around the people in the BDSM community, the closeness and sincerity of the D/s relationship. I mean talk about true trust; I just wanted to put that into my stories. It wasn’t about pain like most people think, but sensation, respect and consideration. I’ve always liked the “alpha males” and a Dom was the ultimate alpha male to me without making the hero a shifter. Other authors were not really tying in BDSM and holidays together when I first started so that was my niche. Now readers expect that twice a year story from me.
What are the titles of your holiday BDSM?
Oh, goodness, I never think about how man I have written until someone asks me about them. I believe there are 5 specific holiday BDSM stories. I have other BDSM stories that readers can find on my site. Bound for Christmas, A Gentle Christmas (2), Holiday Fantasy (1), Trusting St. Nick and Ho, Ho, Ho and a Dom. There’s also Speed Dating; that was a Valentine’s BDSM story.
What's next for you?
I have one of my Stir Stick & Stilettos shorts called Holiday in Handcuffs and a novella, the third story that follows A Gentle Christmas, it is called, Submission under the Mistletoe that will both be out in December.
I'm an erotica author that loves pleasurable hours between the sheets; whether it is a blended tale of interracial lovers, the clandestine bite and wicked passion of a paranormal mates or the sting of a commanding whip against tender flesh. Even better, make my day and toss in two gorgeously, decadent men who only want to pleasure their woman. I write Short and Sexy, Sensual Erotica (SASSE). I've been penning erotic tales since 2006, on the hedonistic side of the romance genre. However, I've been writing romance under a different pen for a while. I'm eclectic by nature. I'm married to my best friend. A guy that makes me laugh 'til I can't breathe and one who steals my breath every time he walks into a room. I believe in happily ever after like the rising of the sun depended on it. You can find out more about me at: http://yvettehines.com
Leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite BDSM Holiday themed read is and you will be entered to win a Bound for Christmas t-shirt, a signed copy of SASSE Sheets and a signed copy of Bear’s Gold.
Winner will be announced on December 23th.

ReplyDeleteWhile I love all the holiday BDSM from Yvette my favorite one has to be Bound for Christmas because it just seemed to touch something in me. ReplyDeleteGreat interview, I love reading your stories and my favorite christmas story from you so far is Bound For Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Silver. Bound for Christmas was a touching story to tell. I'm a 14 year AF vet, so the troops and their stories run deep for me when I can add it into a book.
DeleteGreat interview. I loved Ho Ho Ho and a Dom. I love books were the hero and heroine start out as friends then become lovers. I don't think Kara fully appreciated what she was getting into, but she and Jon loved the end results.
