What the Feck (WTF): June is Audiobook Month

What the Feck?! (WTF?!)
Every Monday we will post a book related topic
that had us thinking WTF?! while reading a book
or talking to others in the book community.

JUNE IS AUDIOBOOK MONTH

This week's WTF post is brought to you in part by Audible.com.

You guys know by now that I have a love for audiobooks.  I try to turn other readers and bloggers on to them. I've been successful in getting a few bloggers and a real life friend to give them a try. And now that they are hooked. I feel like an audio "dealer". Just one listen and you'll be coming back for more. LOL That's why I decided to host an audiobook challenge this year. Which I totally completed my chosen level within the 1st quarter. Just look at the update post.

I don't know if you guys have noticed but there's usually at least one audio review a week here by me. Honestly if it was for me listening to audios in the car and at work I would only get 1 book read every other week. I've been spending more and more time online at night chatting on Twitter or catching up on my new favorite TV show, Supernatural that my reading time has slowed down.

And truthfully, I've been enjoying listening to books more than reading them lately. But it's all about the narrators. A great narrator can really add to an already great book. See a few examples in one of my earlier WTF posts.

Where do you get your audiobooks from?

I've been asked this question by many people on Goodreads, Shelfari and Twitter. The answer is my local library and Audible.com.

I try to use my library system as much as I can to save money but their selection is limited; although it's getting better all the time. But when I purchase my audiobooks I do it 98% of the time through Audible.com.

Audible.com has been my provider of choice for audiobooks since becoming a member in 2010. They have the biggest audio library to choose from (at the moment). And if you listen to audios you know that sometimes a narrator just doesn't work for you and now with their exchange/return policy you can't loose. I've exchanged two audios after not liking the narration with no questions asked.

Why do you like audiobooks?

Another question I get asked by non-listeners. Again if the narrator is great it's like having someone "act out" the book for your listening enjoyment. Authors can bring characters and worlds to life on the page but with an awesome narrator it's like having a book in 3D. It makes the experience richer.

How do you listen to your audiobooks?

I downloaded the free Audible.com app for iPhone. It's really easy to use.

What audiobooks do you recommend?

I get this question from readers wanting to pop their audiobook cherry. Well here is my audiobook auto buy list.

Downside Ghosts Series by Stacia Kane, Narrated by Bahni Turpin
Kate Daniels Series by Ilonda Andrews, Narrated by RenĂ©e Raudman
Dreg City Series by Kelly Meding, Narrated by Xe Sands
Elemental Assassin by Jennifer Estep, Narrated by Lauren Fortgang
Jane Yellowrock by Faith Hunter, Narrated by Khristine Hvam Kies
Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole, Narrated by Robert Petkoff
Anything by Molly Harper and Narrated by Amanda Ronconi
Charley Davidson Series by Dyrand Jones, Narrated by Lorelei King

Disclaimer Time.

I was contacted by Audible.com. They wanted to know if I would share my customer comments about their audio services. I said sure. The timing was perfect since I had this WFT topic already on my calendar.

Audible.com gifted me with 2 audio credits for being a customer and for agreeing to givie my feedback to my readers. But I feel a little icky keeping the credits for myself. So that means.....GIVEAWAY TIME. Two lucky readers will get 1 audio of their choice.

Sabina Kane Read A Long: Interview with Jaye Wells + Giveaway

Welcome to the last discussion in the Sabina Kane series Read a Long. This time around we have a 3 part interview with the author, Jaye Wells. Jenese, Christen and I all had questions for Jaye. So to make sure you visit all three blogs to see the complete interview.

Also this time around there will be a giveaway. Jaye has a new book coming out June 6, Meridan Six. I'm giving one copy to one lucky reader.

Now with further ado check out our interview with Jaye Wells.

I love it when a secondary character steals the show. WTF did the idea for Gighual come from?

Well ... it's like this: I've had a fascination with hairless cats ever since Rachel got on on Friends. Remember? She was convinced the cat was evil? Anyway, since Sabina was half-mage I thought it would be funny for her to have a hairless cat familiar.

True story: I almost cut Giguhl from the book entirely. Luckily, a smart beta reader talked me out of it and suggested that maybe instead of him already being her familiar he could be sent as a messenger of sorts from someone. I took that idea and ran with it, which is where the initial scene where he tries to kill her came from.

I probably owe that beta reader a drink since without Giguhl I don't think the series would have sold in the first place.

Let's talk love interest. Why Adam and not Slade? (Sorry Mancy)

Oh, Slade. I like him so much. But in the end, he was not a good choice for Sabina because he is too similar to her. He didn't challenge her to grow. The theme of the entire series is balance. She needed someone who could help her find that sweet spot between her vampire and mage sides. It was all about Sabina's growth and who, in the end, helped Sabina reach that place. To me that person was Adam.

Can we except the same type of dark, sick, twisted humor in your up coming release, Dirty Magic? (Please say yes)

I'm pretty sure I'm incapable of writing anything without that dark, twisted vein. I can tell you that when my agent read Dirty magic she kept saying, OMG ___ is so creepy. And then she'd giggle. So I guess that's a yes?

Thanks for hosting the read-along for the Sabina Kane series. I'm thrilled people are still discovering Team Awesome!

Head over to Readers ConfessionGoldilox and the Three Weres to read the rest of the interview.

After several years as a magazine editor and freelance writer, USA TODAY Bestselling author Jaye Wells finally decided to leave the facts behind and make up her own reality. Her overactive imagination and life-long fascination with the arcane and freakish blended nicely with this new career path. Her Sabina Kane urban fantasy series is a blend of dark themes, grave stakes and wicked humor. Jaye lives in Texas with her saintly husband and devilish son. Her work is represented by Rebecca Strauss of DeFiore and Co.

Meridian Six
by Jaye Wells
June 6, 2013

Meridian Six remembers the days before the Troika enslaved humans. She also remembers her mother, a freedom fighter who was murdered in the final battle between humans and vampires. But it is her mother’s final words that have haunted her:

Red means life.

When M6 finally runs from the vampires who've held her captive, she finds herself used by her own race. Because in a world at war, freedom is a luxury paid for in blood.

Ann Mayburn Talks About Classic Hot Men + Giveaway

Hello ladies.  I was talking the other day with one of my readers about guys that are classic hot, and we started naming off a few of our favorite guys. As I was writing ‘My Wicked Nanny (Club Wicked, #2)’ later that day I realized that the hero of the book, Jesse, is very much a John Wayne kinda guy. Not physically, but they both have that quiet inner strength, and dominance, that just kind of radiates from them.

You know, the kind of energy that makes women flock like moths to a flame. ;)

Jesse embodies that good, old-fashioned kind of man that will always take care of his woman and put the needs of those he loves first. But what’s a little different about him compared to most heroes that you see in modern day romance is that he’s a Dad, and a good one at that. He’s the kind of man that adore his children and does everything he can for them, doing a great job despite facing the challenges of raising his children as a widower. I can’t think of one woman I know who wouldn’t find that sexy in a man.

Now, add to that his hot cowboy good looks with a killer bod and you have a man that would devastate any woman. Oh, and did I mention that he’s rather skilled at BDSM? ;)

Yep, this is not a book for the faint of heart. If you are on heart medication, or you get choked up at descriptive and panty melting sex scenes, this isn’t the book for you. But, if you like some sweet with your steam, and a bit of pain with your pleasure, I think you’ll really dig my Club Wicked series.

My Wicked Nanny
by Ann Mayburn
Club Wicked, #2

Young nanny Anya Kozlov takes a job at the elite BDSM club, Wicked, in order to pay for her upcoming trip to Paris for her costume designing internship. Donning a mask to disguise herself, a scandalous outfit, and assuming the fake name of Dove, Anya is at once fascinated and terrified about her new job. On her first night she is shocked by the pure decadence of the club, but her greatest surprise comes when she finds out that the man she is a nanny for and has an enormous crush on, Jesse Shaw, is also a member of Wicked. When Jesse expresses his interest in teaching her about the dark pleasures of Dominance and submission Anya is helpless to resist, even though she is lying to him about who she is.

Jesse can't seem to get the new hostess, Dove, out of his mind. It's been five years since his wife passed and for the first time he feels something beyond physical lust or friendship for a woman. Entranced by the sweet and submissive woman, he is angry and hurt when he finds out that Dove is really Anya, his meek and mousy nanny. With only a few weeks left before Anya leaves for Paris, Jesse is determined to get her to not only tell the truth, but also to put his mark on her soul so deep that no man could ever take his place.

Just like the mark she has already put on his.

Tell me below some other traits that you find sexy in a man and you’ll be entered to win a faboosh Club Wicked swag bag. :D

Don't forget to include your email address.
And giveaway is open to US only.
Closes Friday, April 12th.

ROAST: It's My Turn!

You've heard from some of my blogging friends this past week. Now let's see if they stay my friends after I have my say. {Evil cackle}

red hot booksYou know why I had to jump in and say Stomp vs Romp? So I could get a word in edge wise. Jen at Red Hot Books will corner an author and talk and talk and talk. Girl's got to do what she can to get noticed while around her.

Oh and fair warning to all those going to RT....she gets louder and more talkative the more she drinks.

But I will forgive her for all that since she is the one the that opened my eyes to the wonderful world that is gay porn. Thank you! But if I hear the words "if you say so..." one more time, I'm going to put a pillow over your face while you sleep at RT.

The Book Vixen
Brianna at The Book Vixen how could you ask a question about Man Titties? Really what's wrong with you?! Man Titties trump EVERYTHING. The only way a cover can be any better is if they put the beans and frank on the cover too.

Y'all if I got missing after RT you know that Amber I at Awesomesauce Bookclub has pull a Buffalo Bill and is wearing my skin as a dress.

Blumpkin - Term meaning to receive oral sex while defecating

Hot Karl - The act in which a woman sucks the cock of the same man who moments earlier was balls deep in her can.

Hot ListensLupdilup you are the main reason I got into audio books. You opened up my ears to smut on audio; a perv can't get enough smut so thanks for showing me that I can get my freak on at work.

Raises a jello shot to ya chica! Keep on listen!

My Alter Ego CharlieOh poor Jen at The Bawdy Book Blog has deluded herself into thinking she is a bigger Fever fan than me. What the Feck?! She's spent too much time sniffing glue on the spines of books. Tisk tisk.

“I'm sorry your pretty little world got all screwed up, but everybody's does, and you go on. It's how you go on that defines you.”

Little Read Riding Hood
While Laura is in the corner crying and whining I'm thinking of ways to make her my bitch at AADSAV. She thinks I'm scary online.....she has no idea what is in store for her when we meet in person.

The only way she can make things better for herself is to have ALL of the NH series and spin-off books read before August.

Jenses have the balls to ask the real questions first. Don't wait for me to call your ass out on it.  Seriously, who gives a feck about my favorite food? They want to know what B.O.B I endorse!  You go ahead and make that road trip to AADSAV for the signing. It will be a pleasure to bitch slap you with a jelly Osaka for questions like that.

How dare you call me a whore.... wait you said book whore. Ok fair enough. You promised not to talk about my oral skills. Just for that I'm talking Dean AND Sam, they will enjoy those skills and not tell!

Since that series we're not talking about sucked the big one (for us) then get off your petunia and pick one that will rock my face off.

Seriously, you guys are a bunch of fun whores that any blogger would consider themselves in hell to have you as friends. Keep up the author blocking, weird stalking and whining about not knowing how to organize your asses. Cuz this bitch loves every one of you and thanks you for being part of the 1st annual Roast of The Book Nympho. But since you all sucked at your jobs I'll be getting a different group of bloggers next year.

Giveaway is open to anywhere that The Book Depo ships to.

ROAST: Talking About Oral Skills and Petunias

Happy Two Year Blogoversary to the only chick I know who can review erotica and Dr. Seuss on the same blog without getting into trouble!

Jennifer (The Book Nympho) and I first met on Shelfari, back when we were first establishing our blogs. Overwhelmed with so many options and questions, we often reached out to one another whenever we had a “What the Feck?” blogging moment (trust me there were plenty) and I’ve always appreciated her opinion and honesty. Our love of books, Man Candy, Supernatural and The Walking Dead (yes, she loves zombies too) has kept us chatting on Twitter way past our bedtimes many a night! #IDontMind

Most recently we collaborated on what we thought would be a fun read-a-long (that shall remain nameless) and had high hopes, only to have it blow up in our faces when we realized the books were not our cup of tea, to say the least…hopefully our next collaboration won’t be another WTF moment to add to the list!

Since The Book Nympho is a fan of KMM’s Fever series (of Barrons to be exact) and has had all her marshmallows toasted so far, I thought it’d be fun to pay homage by sizing her up with the series heroine, the infamous Rainbow Girl. Enjoy!

A Few Things The Book Nympho
and MacKayla Lane Have in Common…

  • They’re mouthy, smartass blondes…
  • You don’t know if you’re going to love her or leave her when you first meet…
  • They’re book whores…
  • Modesty is not their strong suit…
  • A filter is something they use only when brewing coffee…
  • Talking to books is perfectly normal…
  • Their oral skills are impeccable…(hey get your minds out of the gutter!)
  • Working with them can be a pain in the petunia but they always get the job done!

ROAST: Jenese Pusses Out

Another one pusses out on us and takes the safe road with an interview. Let's see what questions Jenese from Readers Confession had for me.

Quickies

  • Fav food? Italtian
  • Fav alcoholic beverage? Margaritas (prefer frozen)
  • Fav color? Purple
  • Fav author? Karen Marie Moning (if I had to name JUST one)
  • One book you would recommend to a non-reader? Hunger Games for the "safe" read (no sex and little to no adult language. For those more adventurous, Darkfever.

What's your biggest blogging regret or mistake?

No regrets so far. Mistake, spelling and grammar errors that I don't catch myself.

How much time do you spend on blogging weekly?

1-2 hours a day so around 10 hours a week. Give or take.

Best blogging experience?

Getting to talk with some of my favorite authors through Twitter.

Biggest fan girl moment?

Meeting Jeaniene Frost at AADNOLA

I know you and several of your blogging buddies (names will NOT be disclosed) love to tweet pictures of lovely looking men. :-D Who is your favorite male specimen? (Pics please)

Just to name a few: David Gandy, Supernatural's Dean & Sam

With the whole copy right thing, here is a link to the yumminess on my Pinterest Page

You have some tattoos and you wish you could get removed. Tramp stamp- Oh yeah!! Why do you hate it?

Ducks head.... I've always thought tatoos were tacky looking. I can't even stand an ink pen mark on my hand. I got a bug up my arse one day and got TWO at one time. But I did think ahead to my old age and in case I gain 300lbs and got my them in places that you can't see unless I wear a tank top (which has to be hotter than hell if I wear one in public) or my shirt rides up. (right shoulder and lower back) so they most likely won't sag in those places either. Nothing worst than having a tat on the "ladies" and years later it not look the same because the ladies are down to my knees.

Your most coveted possession? (Besides your kid, hopefully your hubby too, haha)

Wow. I would not have named either. (bad mother/wife?!) My hubby got me a Macbook Pro for Xmas so I would say that is my most coveted possession with my NookColor a close second. Oh and I can't forget about my hardback Fever series collection!!

What's your biggest pet peeve?

Reading - Dog earring and spine breaking. Oh and peeps spoiling you on Twitter about books. I'm not talking about the random tweets but the ones that peeps direct at you. UGH really? Do I need to start blocking peeps?!

Real Life - People making noise in the movie theather. WTF I paid $20 to see the movie I want to F&#*ing hear too. Chew that F&#*ing popcorn a little louder asshat. Talk after the movie!! For the love that is all holy turn your fecking cell phone off. And don't get me started on the people that rattle the shit out of candy wrappers.

ROAST - Book Bullying & Scaring the Sh*t out of Laura

Little Read Riding Hood

Jennifer The Book Nympho can be a scary beast. I “met” her not long after I started blogging and was invited to join The Terrible Girls Group on Goodreads. There is a group of us who are absolutely obsessed, probably beyond what is healthy, with Stacia Kane’s Downside Ghosts series, and more specifically, the character Terrible. Were he to magically become real we would probably kill each other over him. But I digress …

As a group, we decided we wanted to do Terrible Girl Buddy Reads and for some unholy (ha! – ok, you will only think it’s funny if you know Downside Ghosts) reason I decided my first buddy read was going to be with Jen. We picked Dead on the Delta as our read and I was super excited to get started. I had only been blogging for about 1 ½ months at the time and was excited to work with someone I considered “one of those bloggers,” with lots of followers and was hoping she could be a good teacher and guide to me. Good lord I didn’t know what I signed up for.

Jennifer is one of those people that is very hard to read when talking to online. My very first email from her was a scheduling email, working with google calendar – something I didn’t even know existed (but has now become my best friend). I don’t think it even said anything, just the date and book. Ok, maybe she likes to get the details down before the fun starts. Ha!

She scared the crap out of me every time I had a new message in my inbox. I didn’t understand how it could take her so long to get the book read, I mean it only took me a couple days (I get it now – boy do I get it!) and every email was just a few sentences long. Very utilitarian. I knew she didn’t like me and probably thought I was stupid. But somehow, our post came together and it looked pretty good! Ok hers looked good, mine looked like a 4 year old was give access to my page. (It still looks that way, check out the post! http://wp.me/p2v3VX-2u)

After that, I was super nervous to do another buddy post, but I did one anyway. And you know what? I was able to take the lead on that one because of the super organized way Jennifer set ours up. And after a few weeks, I realized she was still talking to me on Twitter and in our group, so she couldn’t hate me that much.

Until she found out I hadn’t read the Night Huntress series. You would have thought I’d killed a baby. She was so appalled that I am pretty sure she rigged a giveaway just so I would win. And instead of winning just one book, I somehow ended up with the first four. And I have been instructed I am not allowed to participate in any more group or buddy reads until I get that read.

She is such a book bully. And I wouldn’t change a thing.  Congratulations on two years of book blogging!

Laura is also celebrating her a Blogoversary this month.
Make sure you check it out.

ROAST: Who's the BIGGER Fever Fan?

My Alter Ego Charlie

I’m A Bigger Fan of the Fever Series
Than The Book Nympho

I don’t care what Jennifer tells you, I am a bigger fan of the Fever series than she is. That she has an avatar with a Mac Halo is irrelevant. If I had thought of it first, it would be mine! I don’t care that her background looks like AWC Dublin….that’s MY ‘hood ya’ll! AND SHE CAN JUST FORGET ABOUT BARRONS.

But just in case – JUST IN CASE – I am wrong, we’re going to have a little quiz to see how much she knows about the Fever world, and settle it once and for all.

That’s right – I’m going to interview Jennifer about all things Fever. Let’s see how she fares. Oh yeah, and BTW: one lucky reader here will win one of the Fever series books from The Book Depository. If you haven’t read it yet, we suggest you start with Darkfever.
