ROAST - Book Bullying & Scaring the Sh*t out of Laura

Little Read Riding Hood

Jennifer The Book Nympho can be a scary beast. I “met” her not long after I started blogging and was invited to join The Terrible Girls Group on Goodreads. There is a group of us who are absolutely obsessed, probably beyond what is healthy, with Stacia Kane’s Downside Ghosts series, and more specifically, the character Terrible. Were he to magically become real we would probably kill each other over him. But I digress …

As a group, we decided we wanted to do Terrible Girl Buddy Reads and for some unholy (ha! – ok, you will only think it’s funny if you know Downside Ghosts) reason I decided my first buddy read was going to be with Jen. We picked Dead on the Delta as our read and I was super excited to get started. I had only been blogging for about 1 ½ months at the time and was excited to work with someone I considered “one of those bloggers,” with lots of followers and was hoping she could be a good teacher and guide to me. Good lord I didn’t know what I signed up for.

Jennifer is one of those people that is very hard to read when talking to online. My very first email from her was a scheduling email, working with google calendar – something I didn’t even know existed (but has now become my best friend). I don’t think it even said anything, just the date and book. Ok, maybe she likes to get the details down before the fun starts. Ha!

She scared the crap out of me every time I had a new message in my inbox. I didn’t understand how it could take her so long to get the book read, I mean it only took me a couple days (I get it now – boy do I get it!) and every email was just a few sentences long. Very utilitarian. I knew she didn’t like me and probably thought I was stupid. But somehow, our post came together and it looked pretty good! Ok hers looked good, mine looked like a 4 year old was give access to my page. (It still looks that way, check out the post! http://wp.me/p2v3VX-2u)

After that, I was super nervous to do another buddy post, but I did one anyway. And you know what? I was able to take the lead on that one because of the super organized way Jennifer set ours up. And after a few weeks, I realized she was still talking to me on Twitter and in our group, so she couldn’t hate me that much.

Until she found out I hadn’t read the Night Huntress series. You would have thought I’d killed a baby. She was so appalled that I am pretty sure she rigged a giveaway just so I would win. And instead of winning just one book, I somehow ended up with the first four. And I have been instructed I am not allowed to participate in any more group or buddy reads until I get that read.

She is such a book bully. And I wouldn’t change a thing.  Congratulations on two years of book blogging!

Laura is also celebrating her a Blogoversary this month.
Make sure you check it out.
