Review: Dead Reckoning

Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris
Sookie Stackhouse Book 11
Release Date: May 3, 2011
With her knack for being in trouble’s way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte’s, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover Eric Northman and his “child” Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot—which is much more complicated than she knows...Caught up in the politics of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human - and that there is a new Queen on the board . . .

Review:
In one word.... BLAH.

I hate to be negative since I really have enjoyed most of this series but the last two books has been SLOW and a disappointment to me. Dead Reckoning has now replaced Dead in the Family as my least favorite book in the series.

It wasn't all bad; we did get some background info on Sookie's fae blood and her Gran. And there was some intense moments between Sookie and Eric and then between Eric and Pam but over all it didn't really have any action until about the last 50 or so pages. On a bright note we got a little bit of "Bubba" and for you Bill fans there was a few scenes between him and Sookie.

Dead in the Family felt like a bridge book so I was expecting more action and a faster pace in this one. Nope.

I don't know if watching True Blood has ruined the books for me or if the series has just gone on too long like some series do. It is the 11th book in the series. I hate to say it but maybe it's time to put Sookie to rest.

If you are die hard Sookie fan you will read it and I will most likely continue the series since I remember reading somewhere that there was only going to be 13 books, which if it's true we only have 2 more to go. But I might wait for them to come out in paperback instead paying the hardback price.
My Rating: 2.5

  1. Good review. I have put off buying this book because Dead in the Family was not all I hoped, and I didn’t want to shell out the extra bucks on a hardback or kindle copy of a so-so book. I’m waiting until the price drops to buy, but I am a huge sookie fan so i still wanna read it...
