October 2009
Seven deadly sins. Seven souls to save. This is the first battle between a savior who doesn't believe and a demon with nothing to lose!
Redemption isn't a word Jim Heron knows much about-his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charged with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins. And failure is not an option.
Vin DiPietro long ago sold his soul to his business, and he's good with that-until fate intervenes in the form of a tough-talking, Harley-riding, self-professed savior. And then he meets a woman who will make him question his destiny, his sanity, and his heart-and he has to work with a fallen angel to win her over and redeem his own soul.

Mona Lisa Eclipsing by Sunny
Release Date: April 5, 2011
Erotic Paranormal
Monére, Children of the Moon Series #7
From the time she was an orphan, Mona Lisa knew she was different. As a Mixed-Blood daughter of the Monère, she rules her domain in the Louisiana Bayou. But she’s about to become the hunted as her mind begins playing tricks, and no one is who they seem.
Roberto Carderas, a dangerous drug lord of mixed Monère heritage, arrives in Cozumel to eliminate a rival. But the jaguar-shifter has encountered a much more valuable prize on the island: Mona Lisa, the first female Monère he’s ever met—and one especially vulnerable in that she has lost her memory. Now, with all knowledge of her real life as stripped away as her defenses, Mona Lisa can be manipulated into believing…anything.
Convinced that Roberto is her kind and sensual protector, Mona Lisa thwarts all attempts at her rescue—including those made by her desperate lover Dante. As Roberto’s devious scheme gets underway, Dante can only hope that the touch of his warm flesh will reignite total recall in the body and mind of the woman he loves. But escape for both of them could be as forever elusive as Mona Lisa’s past.

HIS MISSION WAS TO DESTROY HER.
BUT DESIRE GOT IN THE WAY.

A product of genetic manipulation, Melanie Milan shares a body with her malevolent sister, Phoebe. A sleek, blond predator with a heart of pure darkness, Phoebe puts their body through the wicked underbelly of sex for thrills—when she’s not igniting her pyrokinetic skills for an evil organization bent on taking over the world. Melanie rarely gets out to play—much less fall in love. But that changes when rival ACRO agent Stryker Wills shows up, with a mission to terminate the woman who torched his partner.

An operative with rare abilities, Stryker soon realizes that the woman he’s about to kill isn’t the murderous fire starter he’s been hunting. But he does want her. Melanie, with the power to ice anything in her path, is heating things up in ways that are setting fire to his blood. As long as Melanie stays in control, she is his best ally to bring down her sister and stop hellish havoc from being unleashed. Walking a tightrope of longing and hate, Stryker and Melanie begin to understand that true power lies in sweet surrender to each other, to the flames between them, to the erotic adventure that’s joined their hearts and abilities to become their salvation—and perhaps the world’s.

This week, Soft Apocalypse—from Night Shade Books—is our Free Fridays selection. Rather than tell you about this fantastic book myself, I’ve excerpted a portion of our blogger Paul Goat Allen’s rave review. In fact, Allen closes his review with an emphatic promise: “Bottom line: If Soft Apocalypse isn’t nominated for a Hugo or Nebula Award, I will eat the entire book page by page…”
Apocalyptic fiction fans looking for the next big read need look no further than Soft Apocalypse, the stellar debut novel from Will McIntosh. (For those of you not yet familiar with McIntosh – a psychology professor at Georgia Southern University – he is a supremely talented young writer, having already written some exceptional short fiction, including the Hugo Award winning “Bridesicle.”)
Many apocalyptic novels are set in a world devastated by a sudden, unexpected cataclysm – a nuclear war, a meteor strike, a pandemic, etc. – but McIntosh’s end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it is decidedly soft. Set in and around a near-future Savannah, Georgia, the end of humanity arrives slowly, almost unnoticed by a populace too preoccupied by surviving in an America beleaguered by an almost 60 percent unemployment rate, frequent blackouts, water shortages, eco-terrorism, etc.

Harry Potter and The Deadly Hallows Part 2 Trailer

It's the moment that Harry Potter fans have been waiting for - the release of the official trailer of the final instalment from Hogwarts.
And it seems that the promo for Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 hasn't disappointed, with fans the world over already describing it as 'epic.'
The 1min 58secs taster, which debuted online in the early hours of this morning, features some dazzling never-seen-before footage from the forthcoming movie, which sees the saga of the boy wizard and his chums finally come to a climax after a decade on screen

    WTF is Steampunk?!

I've been seeing on some other blogs peeps taking about a genre I've not heard of. Steampunk. So I had to look it up to see what all the buzz was about.

Here is what Wikipedia had to say about it:

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s. Specifically, steampunk involves an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century and often Victorian era Britain—that incorporates prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; in other words, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc. This technology may include such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne or real technologies like the computer but developed earlier in an alternate history.
Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of "the path not taken" for such technology as dirigibles, analog computers, or such digital mechanical computers as Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace's Analytical engine.
Steampunk is often associated with cyberpunk. They have considerable influence on each other and share a similar fan base, but steampunk developed as a separate movement. Apart from time period and level of technology, the main difference is that steampunk settings tend to be less dystopian.
Various modern utilitarian objects have been modded by individual artisans into a pseudo-Victorian mechanical "steampunk" style, and a number of visual and musical artists have been described as steampunk.

So after reading that I thought of Wild Wild West with Will Smith and Sucker Punch that was released last month.

Then I looked around for some books in the genre and ran across a list on Goodreads. I saw that Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare ison the Goodreads list for Best Steampunk Books. I'll have to check this book out, it sounds interesting.

Review: Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews

    Title: Magic Bleeds
    Author: Ilona Andrews
    Series: Kate Daniels (bk#4)
    Release Date: May 2010
    Genre: Urban Fantasy
Buy Links: Amazon / Barnes & Noble
     ★★★★

Kate Daniels works for the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle – especially if they involve Atlanta’s shapeshifting community.
When she’s called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar midway between the territories of the shapefshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers there’s a new player in town. One who’s been around for thousands of years – and rode to war at the of Kate's father.
This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, to handle. Because this time, Kate will be taking on family…

    Review:
Overall this series is something of a post-apocalyptic universe where technology and magic struggle for control over the world. The plots are complex, exhilarating and even though this is urban fantasy there is still a healthy dose of romance. This book has the most romance so far, but this is not your standard romance where you know that all will be well in the end.

Kate is such a great heroine. She is strong-minded and tough, smart ass chick that is totally likeable. And in this 4th installment of the series, we do not just see the tough sword swinging Kate but we also get to see her softer side.

If you are up to date on the series then you will remember the bet that Curran made with Kate about dinner in the last book, Magic Strikes. (I won't go into details in case you are new to the series.) We get to see what happens with that bet and all hell breaks loose after a misunderstanding between the would be couple. Kate is pissed and hurt and so is Curran. For the first half part of the book, their budding romance is put on hold while they try to work with each other a case.

Kate tries to work with the Order, the Mercenary Guild, the government, and the Pack to uncover the villain's identity before Atlanta's supernatural population is reduced to nothing. After learning the who the villain is, Kate learns more of her family history. Every family has their problems but boy does Kate have her hands full with hers.

Some of my favorite secondary characters are present in this book. Saiman the mysterious shapeshifter has a few good scenes in this one. He is still trying to get Kate into his bed so you know there's a scene or two where Curran lets his fillings about that be known to everyone in roaring distance. There are some heart breaking scenes involving Derek, Kate's young werewolf sidekick.

Ilona Andrews does another great job with plot, character and world building in this book. The series just keeps getting better. I highly recommend this book to any urban fantasy fan. Keep in mind that with most of the UF genre this series can be very dark but it's every enjoyable to read.

I've already pre-ordered the next book, Magic Slays (release date May 31, 2011) and I can't wait to see what Kate and her band of misfits brings us next.

Also if you are a fan of the series you should check out the free read Curran: Volume I Look into the Beast Lord's mind. A collection of scenes from Curran's point of view.
