True Blood Season 5: Waiting Sucks - Sam/Luna

Another quick sneak peek at Season 5.

Waiting Sucks

New season starts June 10th

So as we get ready for the new season of True Blood,
who is picking up a copy of Deadlocked?

Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse #12)

NOT me.
The last two books in the series was just blah for me.
Instead of buying Deadlocked like the others
I will be checking it out from my local library.
Since I've read the whole series and there is only 1 more book,
I'll finish the series out to see how it ends.

This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy . . .

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents -- until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. PNR Audio Review: No Rest for the Wicked by Kresley Cole

No Rest for the Wicked (Immortals After Dark, #3)
No Rest for the Wicked
by Kresley Cole
(Immortals After Dark #3)
Robert Petkoff (Narrator)
Audiobook, Unabridged
Published March 20th 2012 by Simon and Schuster
RATING: ★★★

REVIEW:

Between Cole's writing and Petkoff's narration; dry humping has never sounded so sexy.

We first heard of Kaderin in No Hunger Like Another and knew that she was a bad ass chick with no feelings. But it's not because she is a cold hearted bitch. We learn more about her past and what happened to her to make her the way she is today.

Sebastian is the younger brother to Nikolai Wroth, who was the yummy vampire in the novella, The Warlord Wants Forever. So already the two are tied together through Nikolai and Myst's marriage. (Myst is member of Kaderin's Valkyrie family.)

Kaderin has prided herself on being a great vampire killer, who's sword never fails taking a vampire's life. But when she finds a dark and brooding vampire hidden away in an old castle she can't bring herself to make the killing blow.

After the two exchange a few words they realize that she is his vampire bride after she bloods him (vampires believe that there is one woman for them and that's their bride, when a vampire is blooded that means that they once again have a heart beat and feels arousal for that woman and will stop at nothing to make her his forever). Kaderin is horrified because valkyrie hate vampires and she has spent hundreds of years killing them.

During the course of the book Kaderin is competing in the Lore's version of the Amazing Race (Cole's words not mine). All kinds of immortals sign up to compete for a grand prize. They travel all over the world earning points to be included in the final round. Sebastian decides he will enter to try and win Kaderin's affections by helping her win the grand prize.

I think that Kaderin and Sebastian made a more believable couple in the way that it took them a while to really get down to the sweaty nekked fun. Sure it was lust at first site but they worked their way to each other and recognized that just because they had fun with the slap and tickle that didn't mean they were in love. One thing leads to another and the two get to know each other and feels start to develop between them. After some hard times and past memories the two find their HEA.

I must say that I'm really enjoying Kersely Cole's writing. So far the stories in this series flow every well and LOVE the characters especially the Valkyrie chicks. They are kick ass warrior chicks but they also have some of the funniest lines I've read in a while. I enjoy how the men in the series so far are so out of touch with the  present that the Valkyrie women help bring them up to date with pop cultural references and sang. This series is just plain funny as hell and sexy at the same time.

Author Interview: Yolanda Sfetsos

Stopping by today is Yolanda Sfetsos
the author of A Patch of Darkness.

Welcome to The Book Nympho.

Thank you, it’s great to be here.

Tell us a little bit about Sierra Fox.

Well, Sierra lives in a contemporary world very much like ours. It’s an alternate version of our world, where ghosts are pretty much accepted as part of everyday life. Not everyone can see them, but most people know the signs. Sierra is one of those people who can see, hear, and interact with ghosts. She can also capture them.

She’s a spook catcher and has her own business. People hire her to remove pesky, misbehaving ghosts from their homes and businesses. She’s also about to find out that ghosts aren’t the only supernatural creatures in the world.

I love the idea behind the world you built; why ghosts?

Thank you! I’ve always been fascinated with ghost stories and really wanted to write one of my own. I’m also a huge fan of urban fantasy, so I put the two together and Sierra’s world was born.

While reading the blurb for A Patch of Darkness I thought of two of my favorite UF series; Downside Ghosts by Stacia Kane because of the whole ghosts and Sierra's job and Fever series by Karen Marie Moning because of the comment about staying in the light. Are you a fan of either series? If not what is your favorite UF series?

I’ve actually got the first book in both series sitting on my TBR pile but haven’t read either yet.

I absolutely love UF! There are a lot of UF series that I love to read, and keep discovering new ones all the time. Here are a few of my faves: Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris, Anna Strong by Jeanne C. Stein, Weather Warden by Rachel Caine, Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs, Kitty Norville by Carrie Vaughn, Allie Beckstrom by Devon Monk, Sabina Kane by Jaye Wells, H & W Investigations by Jess Haines, Rhiannon’s Law by J.A. Saare, and Secret McQueen by Sierra Dean.

There will be others to add soon. Like I said, I’m always open to taking on new UF series books.

Also in the blurb there is mention of a tangled love life. Will the series be like most UF and just tease us with romance or will there be some smexy love scenes in Sierra's future?

Sierra’s love life is complicated. Well, it starts out pretty normal—she has a very attractive boyfriend who is loyal, kind, and patient—but as she starts to realize in the first book, you can’t control what your heart desires the most. And yes, there will be smexy scenes. ;)

A Patch of Darkness is the first book in the Sierra Fox series and I see that you have a title for the second book, Split at the Seams; how many books to you have planned for the series?

Yes, Split at the Seams is already contracted with Samhain Publishing and will be released later this year. I actually have five books planned for the Sierra Fox series.

Quickie Questions:

Paranormal or Normal? Paranormal

Audio books: fan or not? Haven’t really given them a chance

What are you reading? Deep Dark Secret by Sierra Dean

Thanks for stopping by today to answer a few questions.

It was a pleasure. Thanks for having me! :)

Review COMING SOON
A Patch of Darkness
by Yolanda Sfetsos
Sierra Fox, Book 1
eBook
Genre: Urban Fantasy, Shape-shifters, Angels & Demons Publisher: Samhain Publishing, Ltd.
Publication Date: 05-15-2012
Length: Novel
ISBN: 678-1-60928-688-0

All it takes is one weak seam for everything to fall apart.

In a perfect world, Sierra Fox would have stayed away from the Council she left years ago. But in this world—where spirits have the right to walk among the living—it’s her job to round up troublesome spooks and bring them before that very same Council.

Though her desk is piled high with open cases, she can’t resist an anonymous summons to a mysterious late-night meeting with a bunch of other hunters, each of whom seems to have a unique specialty. The news is dire: something is tearing at the fabric of the universe. If the hunters can’t find who or why in time, something’s going to give in a very messy way.

As current cases, family secrets, new clues and her tangled love life slowly wind themselves into an impossible knot, Sierra finds herself the target of a power-sucking duo intent on stealing her mojo. And realizing she holds the key to the last hope of sealing the widening rift.

Warning: Spook catching: may contain traces of ectoplasm and otherworldly nasties. Not recommended for those with allergies to ghosts, demons, and with boyfriends who think your power is theirs. While reading, avoid dark patches and stay to the light.

A PATCH OF DARKNESS will be available from Samhain Publishing on May 15.

UF Review: Demonically Tempted by Stacey Kennedy

Demonically Tempted (Frostbite #2)Demonically Tempted
by Stacey Kennedy
(Frostbite #2)
ebook, 169 pages
Published April 13th 2012
RATING:  ★★★

Tess Jennings, now a member of the Memphis Police Department, is on her first cold case. The suspected suicide of Lizbeth Knapp ten years ago isn’t a theory her family accepts—they believe she was murdered. But the case is only one of Tess’s worries. Ghosts are talking, and word of her abilities rapidly spreads. A dark ghost is terrifying the spirits of Memphis, and she must force the entity to cross over. Tess doesn’t have to do this alone. Not only does she have her ghost-lover, Kipp McGowen, but the department has brought in a medium. Dane Wolfe might answer all her questions, but he also brings a world of trouble. Will Tess finally have all she’s ever wanted, or will everything she’s vowed to protect be ripped away?

REVIEW:

Demonically Tempted picks up where Supernaturally Kissed left off. Tess is still in a relationship Kipp, a hot ghost of a Memphis cop. I'm sure you are wondering how a human can have a relationship with a ghost, much less a sexual relationship with one. Well let's just say that they have to be creative.

Tess's ability to see and speak with ghosts comes in handy when trying to solve murder cases. And after Tess helped the police department solve a case in the last book, she is now on the payroll working on cold cases.

But Tess doesn't know how she power works so the head of the department, Max, enlisted the help of a medium that works with the FBI. Enter Dane, the sexy medium that can be a totally jerk. Kipp is not happy about Dane showing up but he keeps reasons from Tess which leads her to think that he is jealous of him.

But through Dane, Tess learns there are more than just ghosts out there. Like witches and demons.

While I loved the first book in the series, Supernaturally Kissed, I found that it took me about halfway through Demonically Tempted to really get into it. I think it was that DT feels like a bridge book. We need to read it to help build up to the 3rd book in the series. I think the romance was a little lacking but since Tess and Kipp are together and is strong a couple. I don't believe that romance was the main focus for this installment. Also I was missed the presence of Tess's spunky friend but she makes an appearance late in the book.

I had a major prediction about things that was going on with Kipp in the first book and I got my answer in DT. Now I have no idea where Kennedy is going to take us next in Kipp's journey. But I'm excited to find out.

Over all Demonically Tempted is an enjoyable read and if you have not checked out this series you really should. It's written very well and has some great characters and has a promising future in the story line department.

True Blood Season 5: Waiting Sucks - Terry/Patrick

Another quick sneak peek at Season 5.

Waiting Sucks

New season starts June 10th

And I'm sure you TB fans have heard the news that Anna Paquin (Sookie)
is pregnant. It sounds like she will have the baby between seasons. Maybe delaying the next season just a little. Here's hoping they do not write it into the show.

If they did make Sookie pregnant, who would you want to see as the daddy?
Can't be a vamp so would it be someone already on the show like Sam or Alcide
or a new guy?

Feature & Follow

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

Q: Fight! Fight! If you could have two fictional characters battle it out (preferably from books), who would they be and who do you think would win?

Secret McQueen
vs.
Victory "Vicky" Vaughn

Secret is a half werewolf/vampire assassin who works for the vampire tribunal, killing rogue vampires.

Vicky is shapeshifter of the Welsh Cerddorion race who exterminates other people's personal demons for a living.

  • Both are good with swords.
  • Both are shifters (in Secret's case half shifter) that chooses not to change into their animal forms.
  • Both have sexy werewolf boyfriends.

  • Who would win?? I'm not sure. I dare say Vicky because she has the gift of magic on her side.

PNR View: Darker After Midnight by Lara Adrian

Darker After Midnight: A Midnight Breed Novel

    Darker After Midnight
    by Lara Adrian
    (Midnight Breed #10)
    ebook, 384 pages
Published January 24th 2012 by Random House Publishing Group

    REVIEW:

WOW.  Darker After Midnight is so much more than Chase and Tavia finding their HEA. There is so much going on in this installment that will change the face of the series. I feel like Lara Adrian did some foreshadowing with Jenna and the Ancient's storyline back in Taken by Midnight. We've seen changes take place within her since then. And we get to see more evolve with her but still do not get the whole picture with what is happening to her.

Dragos has been a very bad boy! Fans of the series know about some of the things he has done in his secret labs but in Darker we get to see that what we've learned about in the past is just the tip of the iceberg. That Drago is a real Dr. Moreau missing with the DNA of the Breed to make the Hunters so he could use them as killing machines that only took orders from him. But they weren't his only secret that came out of those labs.

It will be interesting to see what his test tube babies hold for the future of the Breed. There are so many life changes in Darker. We get a look into the future of things to come. I've read on Lara Adrian's Facebook Page {contain spoiler if you have not read Darker yet} that the next book, Edge of Dawn, takes place 20 years after Darker and after all the changes and additions; I couldn't see how she could not advance the overall story line in the series.

I'm telling ya, the world of the Breed will never be the same after Darker and fans of this series MUST read it.

PNR Audio Review: A Hunger Like No Other

A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2)
    A Hunger Like No Other
    by Kresley Cole
    (Immortals After Dark #2)
    Robert Petkoff (narrator)
Published by simon and Schuster (first published March 28th 2006)
    RATING: ★★★★

    REVIEW:

If you are new to this series I would highly recommend that you read the novella The Warlord Wants Forever before reading A Hunger Like No Other. It will help introduce you into the world and to Valkyrie convent that the heroine grew up in. Also the couple that is in the novella shows up in Hunger and I was glad that I knew their back story.

I've had this series on my TBR list for over a year and finally decided to start it and I'm so glad I did. Kresley Cole has been added to my list of favorite authors. She does an excellent job of mixing romance and humor. I find myself laughing a lot at the chicks in the Valkyrie convent. I can't wait to read more about them in the next books.

I love how Hunger tied in with the novella and I can see how the secondary characters are going to have their lives intertwined with each other. The time line for Hunger and Warlord was parallel to each other. It was fun to see what was happening to Emma and the other Valkyrie gals while Myst was off having her adventure with Wroth in Warlord. And it was nice to see Myst and Wroth again towards the end of Hunger. We get to see a little more into their HEA.

Wow. This is sounding like a review for two books. LOL Ok enough about the novella, let's dig into Hunger.

Lachlain is a sexy lycan that has been tortured by vampires for 150 years. Which means he pretty much hates them as race. After he smells the presence of his mate nearby, he escapes the dungeon he is chained up in to find her.

That's where Emmaline (Emma) comes into the picture. She is Lachlian's mate but when the two finally meet he can't believe that fate would hand him a vampire mate. He is downright mean to her in the beginning. Emma is terrified of this dark and sexy lycan.

I've seen in other readers had a little hard time with liking Lachlain in the beginning because of the he forces sexual acts onto Emma. I didn't have this issue. It was a build up and with his hatred to vampires because of his past I could see where he would use those scenes as a way to get back at them through Emma. He started out thinking she was an evil leech. But over the course of their time together he learns he was wrong about Emma in so many ways.

With so much against them and the back and forth between the two not trusting one another; their love for each other brings them together.

I've really enjoyed this series so far and I'm adding Kresley Cole to my list of favorite authors. I can't wait to start the next book, No Rest for the Wicked.

Narration side note: I must say that I've not really enjoyed male narrators in the past but Robert Petkoff does a great job with the voices and I love the sexy Scottish brogue that he gives to Lachlain's character.

Audio UF Review: Third Grave Dead Ahead by Darynda Jones

Third Grave Dead Ahead (Charley Davidson #3)Third Grave Dead Ahead
    by Darynda Jones
    (Charley Davidson #3)
    Narrated by Lorelei King
    Audiobook
Published January 31st 2012 by Macmillan Audio
    RATING: ★★★1/2

Paranormal private eye. Grim reaper extraordinaire. Whatever. Charley Davidson is back in Darynda Jones' Third Grave Dead Ahead! And she’s drinking copious amounts of caffeine to stay awake because, every time she closes her eyes, she sees him: Reyes Farrow, the part human, part supermodel son of Satan. Yes, she did imprison him for all eternity, but come on. How is she supposed to solve a missing persons case, deal with an ego-driven doctor, calm her curmudgeonly dad, and take on a motorcycle gang hellbent on murder when the devil’s son just won’t give up?

    REVIEW:

The sassy PI is back. In Third Grave Dead Ahead Charley is trying to deal with the fact that Reyes doesn't want to see her. But can you really blame him after the events of Second Grave on the Left?

Charley is running around all over town hopped up on coffee and days without sleep trying to solve another missing person's case. While Charley tries to find out what has happened to the missing wife of a doctor she has run in after run in with Reyes when she falls asleep. Which is why is she tries to void falling a sleep. Although the encounters are sexy, she can also see that Reyes doesn't really want to be called to her.

More emotional tug of war between Charley and Reyes. They want each other but don't like that they want each other because they still do not trust the other one 100%.

Charley is slowly starting to see what she is capable of with her powers. Things are a brewing and I'm not talking about all that coffee that she and Cookie drinks. As a bigger picture starts to develop through out the series it only brings up more questions. And I can't wait to read/listen to the next book, Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet.

Only time will tell what the fates have in store for Charley and Reyes. And if you are a fan of snark filled mysteries with hotter than sin anti-hero you need to check out Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series. I highly recommend it on audio. Lorelei King does an outstanding job bring the sassy Charley to life.

As war with the lessers rages, and a new clan of vampires vies for the Blind King’s throne, Tohr struggles between an unforgettable past, and a future that he doesn’t know he can live with… but can’t seem to turn away from.

    REVIEW:

Warning: Mild plot spoilers if you are no update on the series.

First off I'll start by saying that Lover Reborn was better than Lover Unleashed in that we got more romance out of the main couple than we did with Payne and Manny. And speaking of LU, was it just me or could we have skipped that book. We got to see just about everyone in LR but Payne and Manny was just there as a doctor and that was it. It felt like they were an afterthought. I think that LU was just a bridge book to introduce the Band of Bastards and No'One. It got us ready for LR.

Ok, we've all waited to see if Thor would get a HEA after the murder of Wellsie and their unborn child. He has mourned for a year and we have mourned with him. Thor and No'one's stories of the past are very heart breaking and it was hard at times to see their relationship change. There was moments where I wanted to hit Thor for how he treated No'One and then there were other times I wanted to hit her for being a door mat. I believe Ward did a great job of making them both overcome their tormented pasts and come together as a loving couple.

But my favorite parts of the book wasn't Thor and No'One. I loved the side stories much more. LOVED. LOVED. That we got to see the hard times that JM and Xhex had to go through after their mating. It made them seem real to me. Not every marriage, or in their case, every mating is perfect but that doesn't mean it's not worth fight for. I think it makes them a strong couple. Just like Thor and No'One, they had to find a way to overcome some of their problems in their relationship.

I also enjoyed seeing another side to Xcor, the leader of the BoB. He's feelings for Layla was heartwarming. And Layla's confusion about Xcor is great. I hope the two of them get a HEA in the future. I see the BoB as what the BDB would be without the funding and support they get from the race and loved ones. They different faces of the same coin.

Quinn/Blay/Saxton triangle seems to be coming to a head since their book is next. HAPPY DANCE!! Quinn and Blay's story is has been building and building and Ward better deliver. (I want hot and sweaty male on male sex scenes.) It will be interesting to see how Quinn, Blay and Layla interact with each other after the events in LR.

Oh, how could I forget?! Lassiter was awesome in this book and I hope that he will follows in Rhev's footsteps as a non-bother that gets his own book.

So over all Lover Reborn was a great step up from the last book and I can't wait to see what the future for the series holds. As long as Ward keeps up the great writing I will ALWAYS read the next book in this series.
