What Inspires Alison Beightol to Write?

Often times people ask me in interviews or just in casual conversation if any books inspired me to become a writer. If I’m talking to someone, I usually blank out at first because I debate on whether or not to say it was a really important work of literature, like The Great Gatsby or Wuthering Heights. Or do I tell the truth and say it was a couple of genre fiction gems that rocked my world and made me sit down at the typewriter (yes, typewriter. I’m that old) and hammer out my first attempt at a novel. Usually, I just smile and say that all books inspired me to write but in reality, it was a few novels that compelled me to write. I read them each at different points in my life and somehow, they all impacted me enough that now I’m an author.

The first book was The Time of the Hunter’s Moon by Victoria Holt. Oh boy, I was addicted to her books but something about this story did it for me. It was the perfect Bronte-esque type story that I would come to love later in my life. It was my introduction to the strong female and the dark, and misunderstood hero characters. Holt was brilliant at telling these stories and I so wanted to be able to create characters and story lines like hers.

The next book was Whittney, My Love by Judith Mc Naught. Mc Naught wrote the best regency romances! I read the book in like 2 days. I still have my copy although it is missing pages, has been soaked accidentally when it fell in the tub and the spine is now cracking. That book with its main characters, again a strong female and a dark and this time a bit of a cad, misunderstood hero, spoke to me. I read and reread it over and over because I hoped I could somehow absorb some of the author’s skill in how she made these fascinating people come to life for me!

Finally, the last book that inspired me to become a writer was The Kommandant’s Mistress by Sherri Szeman. Although now it is listed as by Anastasia Szeman. The author recently told me that the publisher made her shorten her name because it wouldn’t fit on the cover. Anyway, this book to this day still speaks to me. Ms. Szeman sucked me in to the two completely fictional peoples and made me permanently care about them. I had never read a book like that. Two characters, a strong woman and a dark (very), misunderstood male and their dynamics. The story is told from both their points of view, leading you to different conclusions about their ultimate end. How could I not want to have the same power as an author?!

So for me, the books that inspired me to write were ones that had strong females and troubled and sometimes dangerous men. The different styles of those books clearly became part of my creative mind because my novel has several independent, strong women and a powerful alpha male who deep down wants to be loved. Those three books added a new dimension to me not only as a writer but I think even as a person. I love when books do that!

#AADSAV author, Boone Brux To Do List for End of World List

My To Do List for the End of the World

How exciting. In two days the world will end—according to doomsayers. This got me thinking about things I hadn’t accomplished. Here are the top five things I realized about my endless To Do list if the world does indeed end.

  1. I’m so glad I didn’t stress too much about dieting. Yeah, I’m a bit on the fluffy side, but when I weigh the happy times I’ve had that involved food, it was worth every chubby calorie. Let me add that if the world doesn’t end I will be back to my exercise and healthy eating regime.
  2. I’ve never conquered my fear of sharks. Since I live in Alaska, that hasn’t affected me much. They may have my lifeless carcass if those ocean going predators survive the end of the world.
  3. I’ve never gotten my house completely organized or decorated. I actually have a separate To Do list for this section of my life. Getting that big blank wall painted orange doesn’t seem that important if I’m not around to enjoy it.
  4. I’ve often lamented that I hadn’t taken the time to create an amazing piece of art work to hang in my home. But then I looked at my kids and realized they are the best thing I’ve ever done and they make my house the most beautiful place on earth.
  5. What stands out for me when I think about the end of the world coming is how I’ve treated my fellow man. I can honestly say that I’m pleased with how often I tell my family I love them. I’m covered there. But there are times when I maybe wasn’t as generous with my kindness to others.

So here’s my To Do List for the end of the world.

  1. Tell my family I love them some more.
  2. Tell everybody I know that I think they’re awesome and that they’re friendship has meant more than they’ll ever know.
  3. Live in the present, because even if the world doesn’t end, we’re all on borrowed time.
  4. Eat one really great last meal. I’m thinking something with pasta, cheese, bread, and wine—lots of wine. Of course I’ll have to Turbo Jam that off if the world doesn’t end, but still, it will be worth it.
  5. Cuddle my growling, bad-tempered pound puppy. I’d take all those rejected dogs in if I could, but since I can’t, I’ll make his last minutes on earth good ones.
So that’s what I’ve learned and what I will do. I’m really hoping that December 22 rolls around and Earth is none worse for the Mayan calendar. I’m fairly certain this is just a prank the Mayans are pulling on us. Laugh it up guys. On that note, I want to wish everybody a Happy End of the World. You’re all awesome and your friendship means more to me than you’ll ever know.

Leave a comment and tell me what you would do if the world was going to end. You might win a copy of my latest book, Kiss of the Betrayer. Of course you’ll have to spend your last hours reading it, but I really can’t think of a better time.

Happy Holidays Everybody!

Kiss of the Betrayer
Bringer and the Bane Book Two
by Boone Brux
Genre: Fantasy Romance
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Available at: Amazon  B&N

For fifteen years Luc Le Daun has blamed himself for the death of the woman he loved. His secret guilt has led him into a life of danger, risking all and committing to none.

Killing Luc Le Daun has been all Jade Kendell has thought about for years. But when her plan goes awry and she's brought into the Bringers' fold, her own dark secret threatens to be revealed. Desire for a better life wars with a promise made long before she understood the ramifications.

In a deadly mission, Jade and Luc embark on a journey into the Shadow World. As they attempt the impossible, ignoring the attraction growing between them becomes harder to deny. The slightest misstep could mean the loss of their souls and give the Demon King exactly what he needs to open the Abyss of Souls and annihilate the Bringers.

As a multi-published and an award winning author, Boone's writing drips with experiences from real life. Addicted to anything that might make a good story, she weaves tales that range from dark fantasy to humorous romance. Settled in the icy regions of Alaska with the love of her life and twin daughters, it's not uncommon to find her tapping away on her iPad on a windy beach or the barren tundra. Be warned, anyone and every even is fodder for one of Boone's novels.

#AADSAV Author B.A. Tortuga Stops by to Talk Mashed Taters

Howdy, y’all.

When I was writing Fighting Addiction, I researched a number of addictions: alcohol, prescription drugs, sex, food.

Eating disorders are a big part of Sebastian’s story, and while I was researching I met a lovely woman. C.’s daughter suffers from anorexia and they were both kind enough to speak with me, help me make sure that Sebastian’s recovery – especially long-term – was handled right.

One of the things C told me was that care-givers are important from the process and that I needed to assure my characters in recovery were given the support they’d need.

Fortunately, both Markus and Sebastian’s lives where filled with people willing and able to give them the care they deserve.

Helen is Markus’ housekeeper, a granny, and the nurturer of all. This recipe comes directly from her recipe box and there’s always some in the refrigerator, to tempt a twitchy appetite.

Helen’s Temptation Potatoes

3 lbs taters, all peeled up and quartered
1 block cream cheese
Little container of sour cream
½ stick of real butter
1/4 cup milk
salt and pepper
2 cups shredded cheddar
8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
nice big bunch green onions

Place potatoes in a pan with water and bring them up to a boil. Cook until tender, then drain out the water. Turn oven to 375°.

Put the potatoes back to the pan, then mash ‘em up with a potato masher. Put in the cream cheese, sour cream, butter, milk, salt and pepper. Keep on mashing until smooth. Stir in 1 cup of the cheese and half the bacon. Spoon goo into a greased casserole dish, and bake for 20 minutes. Top with remaining cheese, bacon and green onions. Bake for 5 more minutes to melt cheese. Serve immediately.

Serves 8 folks, 4 cowboys, or a dozen little kids.

Much love, y’all, and if you or anyone you know needs help with an eating disorder, please contact NEDA at http://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/. They can get you in touch with help.

Country hat act Markus Kane is pretty skeptical when one of his oldest industry friends calls and asks him to do a joint tour. He and Seb haven’t seen each other in years, not since Markus quit drinking. Maybe not since he and Sebastian Longchamps almost lost their careers to the fact that they couldn’t keep their hands off each other.

Sebastian is a country-fried Cajun rocker, and he’s been missing Markus ever since they broke up all those years ago. His label thinks he and Markus are a match made in ticket-sales heaven, but Seb knows better. He knows that it won’t take even the tiniest effort for Markus to break his heart all over again, and this time around he has way more to lose.

Time has changed both men, though, and while Markus and Seb try to fight their addictions, the big music industry machine has plans for them that don’t include the quiet life. Can Markus convince Sebastian that there are things more important in life than adrenaline and control? And can Sebastian make Markus understand that all he really wants is his music and his man?

Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy's Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds, getting tattooed, texting her sisters, and eating Mexican food. When she's not doing that, she's writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing porn sites in the name of research. River Road Guest Post + Giveaway with Suzanne Johnson

Going for the Jugular (or Other Weak Spots)

Like reading about a strong character who can do it all? Fight wrongs and makes unselfish, wise decisions? Perfect looks, perfect abs, straight teeth, halo?

Not me. Bor-ing. I like characters so flawed and filled with faults that, in real life, they should probably be incarcerated or institutionalized—or at least be in serious therapy.

So I thought I’d play shrink and examine the major characters in my Sentinels of New Orleans series. There are some serious head cases hanging around in South Louisiana—and that’s before I get to my characters. (Hey, I’m one of them so I can say that.) So…calling Dr. Phil…

Drusilla Jaco, aka DJ. Our scrappy little wizard has serious abandonment issues. We haven’t heard the full story of her childhood yet, but we know she was passed around a lot, and has lost a lot of people and stability in her life since Hurricane Katrina. At the same time, she was sheltered in her upbringing so that her social skills are not always…skillful. DJ tries not to care too much about people so when they inevitably leave her or reject her or get killed, she won’t get her heart stomped on again. Which explains at least part of her attraction to a certain undead pirate.

Alex Warin, DJ’s enforcer partner. Mr. Alpha is also Mr. Control Freak, which is the way he’s coped with having to hide his shifter nature from his human family since he first changed as a teenager. Alex doesn’t like mess. He likes things clean and neat and orderly. Problem is, life is not clean and neat and orderly—especially when DJ’s around. He thinks she is a chaos magnet and it drives him crazy. Yet he can’t seem to walk away…

Jake Warin, new enforcer. Jake, Alex’s first cousin, is on the surface the anti-Alex. Laid-back, easy way with people, emotionally transparent. NOT. His character is much more complex than his cousin’s. He’s subject to mood swings that have gotten worse with his new circumstances, and has in the past leaned on alcohol to help himself cope. DJ and Alex are worried about Jake, and with good reason.

Jean Lafitte, undead pirate and member of the Historical Undead. Ah, Le Capitain. He was in his human life prone to arrogance. His supreme self-confidence was both his greatest strength and, ultimately, his weakness. Just don’t tell Jean he has a weakness—he won’t take it well. And while as a member of the historical undead he can’t be killed, he can kill you. Don’t let his infatuation with DJ fool you.

Rene Delachaise, merman. Rene shares a weakness with most of the Louisiana merpeople, aquatic shapeshifters of Cajun descent: a hair-trigger temper. Mers like to fight, and they don’t need much of an excuse. Some people enjoy a good Friday night dance. Rene likes a good Friday night fistfight. He also tends to blindly trust members of his own clan, and have an innate distrust of wizards. He’ll get over it.

Quince Randolph, DJ’s new neighbor. Rand is….Well, I can’t give away Rand’s weaknesses and flaws yet….Not until DJ’s learned about them herself. An author has to hang onto some secrets!

Sentinels of New Orleans, Book 2
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Publisher: Tor Books
Cover Artist: Cliff Nielsen

Book Depository - Indiebound

Hurricane Katrina is long gone, but the preternatural storm rages on in New Orleans. New species from the Beyond moved into Louisiana after the hurricane destroyed the borders between worlds, and it falls to wizard sentinel Drusilla Jaco and her partner, Alex Warin, to keep the preternaturals peaceful and the humans unaware. But a war is brewing between two clans of Cajun merpeople in Plaquemines Parish, and down in the swamp, DJ learns, there’s more stirring than angry mermen and the threat of a were-gator.

Wizards are dying, and something—or someone—from the Beyond is poisoning the waters of the mighty Mississippi, threatening the humans who live and work along the river. DJ and Alex must figure out what unearthly source is contaminating the water and who—or what—is killing the wizards. Is it a malcontented merman, the naughty nymph, or some other critter altogether? After all, DJ’s undead suitor, the pirate Jean Lafitte, knows his way around a body or two.

It’s anything but smooth sailing on the bayou as the Sentinels of New Orleans series continues.

The minute hand of the ornate grandfather clock crept like a gator stuck in swamp mud. I’d been watching it for half an hour, nursing a fizzy cocktail from my perch inside the Hotel Monteleone. The plaque on the enormous clock claimed it had been hand- carved of mahogany in 1909, about 130 years after the birth of the undead pirate waiting for me upstairs.

They were both quite handsome, but the clock was a lot safer.

The infamous Jean Lafitte had expected me at seven. He’d summoned me to his French Quarter hotel suite by courier like I was one of his early nineteenth-century wenches, and I hated to destroy his pirate-king delusions, but the historical undead don’t summon wizards. We summon them.

I’d have blown him off if my boss on the Congress of Elders hadn’t ordered me to comply and my co-sentinel, Alex, hadn’t claimed a prior engagement.

At seven thirty, I abandoned my drink, took a deep breath, and marched through the lobby toward the bank of elevators.

On the long dead-man-walking stroll down the carpeted hallway, I imagined all the horrible requests Jean might make. He’d saved my life a few years ago, after Hurricane Katrina sent the city into freefall, and I hadn’t seen him since. I’d been desperate at the time. I might have promised him unfettered access to modern New Orleans in exchange for his assistance. I might have promised him a place to live. I might have promised him things I don’t even remember. In other words, I might be totally screwed.

I reached the door of the Eudora Welty Suite and knocked, reflecting that Jean Lafitte probably had no idea who Eudora Welty was, and wouldn’t like her if he did. Ms. Welty had been a modern sort of woman who wouldn’t hop to attention when summoned by a scoundrel.

He didn’t answer immediately. I’d made him wait, after all, and Jean lived in a tit- for- tat world. I paused a few breaths and knocked harder. Finally, he flung open the door, waving me inside to a suite plush with tapestries of peach and royal blue, thick carpet that swallowed the narrow heels of my pumps, and a plasma TV he couldn’t possibly know how to operate. What a waste.

“You have many assets, Drusilla, but apparently a respect for time is not among them.” Deep, disapproving voice, French accent, broad shoulders encased in a red linen shirt, long dark hair pulled back into a tail, eyes such a cobalt blue they bordered on navy. And technically speaking, dead.

He was as sexy as ever.

“Sorry.” I slipped my hand in my skirt pocket, fingering the small pouch of magic-infused herbs I carried at all times. My mojo bag wouldn’t help with my own perverse attraction to the man, but it would keep my empathic abilities in check. If he still had a perverse attraction to me, I didn’t want to feel it.

He eased his six-foot-two frame into a sturdy blue chair and slung one long leg over the arm as he gave me a thorough eyeraking, a ghost of a smile on his face.

I perched on the edge of the adjacent sofa, easing back against a pair of plump throw pillows, and looked at him expectantly. I hoped what ever he wanted wouldn’t jeopardize my life, my job, or my meager bank account.

“You are as lovely as ever, Jolie,” Jean said, trotting out his pet name for me that sounded deceptively intimate and brought back a lot of memories, most of them bad. “I will forgive your tardiness— perhaps you were late because you were selecting clothing that I would like.” His gaze lingered on my legs. “You chose beautifully.”

I’d picked a conservative black skirt and simple white blouse with the aim of looking professional for a business meeting, part of my ongoing attempt to prove to the Elders I was a mature wizard worthy of a pay raise. But this was Jean Lafitte, so I should have worn coveralls. I’d forgotten what a letch he could be.

“I have a date after our meeting,” I lied. He didn’t need to know said date involved a round carton with the words Blue Bell Ice Cream printed on front. “Why did you want to see me?”

There, that hadn’t been so difficult—just a simple request. No drama. No threats. No double- entendre. Straight to business.

“Does a man need a reason to see a beautiful woman? Especially one who is indebted to him, and who has made him many promises?” A slow smile spread across his face, drawing my eyes to his full lips and the ragged scar that trailed his jawline.

I might be the empath in the room, but he knew very well that, in some undead kind of way, I thought he was hot.

I felt my face warming to the shade of a trailer- trash bridesmaid’s dress, one whose color had a name like raging rouge. I’d had a similar reaction when I first met Jean in 2005, two days before a mean hurricane with a sissy name turned her malevolent eye toward the Gulf Coast. I blamed my whole predicament on Katrina, the bitch.

Her winds had driven the waters of Lake Pontchartrain into the canals that crisscrossed the city, collapsing levees and filling the low, concave metro area like a gigantic soup bowl.

But NBC Nightly News and Anderson Cooper had missed the biggest story of all: how, after the storm, a mob of old gods, historical undead, and other preternatural victims of the scientific age flooded New Orleans. As a wizard, I’d had a ringside seat. Now, three years later, the wizards had finally reached accords with the major preternatural ruling bodies, and the borders were down, as of two days ago. Jean hadn’t wasted any time.

April Angel - Alpha Male, Alpha Female or Both?

Alpha Male, Alpha Female or Both?

When I came up with the idea for Mr. Buff, I kept seeing Alex as this self-assured woman who knew what she wanted in bed. A woman not looking to play games or to be a booty call, but find a man who could satisfy her needs. In and out of bed. For some men that’s considered a pushy or demanding woman. I like to consider those women Alpha females. Why? Because I tend to gravitate that way myself. I know what I want and I tend to be somewhat demanding. Don’t give me excuses and fulfill my needs. So for those Alpha females, do we find a man that stands down and allows us to lead? Maybe, maybe not. My husband is what we’d call an Alpha male. Just like Andrew is in Mr. Buff. He knows what he wants and is willing to give his woman what she needs, but this is where it gets interesting. See Andrew is a man that likes to be in charge, in the bedroom. Alex has no problems with that. I have found that a lot of people in positions of authority in their life tend to like their partner to be in charge in bed. Or they might just want to be the ones in charge of that too. Whatever the case, I think that two alphas can work out beautifully, as long as one of them is willing to compromise from time to time.

Excerpt:

“So? What’s he doing? Come on, come on. Stop holding out already.” The soft, feminine voice on the other end of the line whined like a child.

Alexandra rolled her eyes and tried not to smile. Why in the world had she decided to tell Nina about Mr. Buff? Every morning, like clockwork, she’d get a call from her best friend and cousin requesting updates. Wound up and ready to pant, she looked into the office right across the street.

The large, sparkling glass windows on both buildings allowed her to view the man walking around. She drank in the sight of the large, buff body, hence the name Mr. Buff. The man definitely took his workouts to heart.

“Alex! What’s Mr. Buff doing now, chica? Tell me please, please, pretty pleeease?” Her fiery cousin, Nina, was a pain in the neck when she thought she was missing out on something good—especially information about one sexy, half-naked man, a man currently running long fingers through his impeccably cut hair.

Alex watched a few locks fall across his forehead. “Not much. He’s about to put his shirt on.”

“Crap. Listen, I have to go, but you have to record this stuff on your phone and e-mail it to me. Stop being so selfish and share. You know I don’t have a man right now. I can use all the visual stimulation I can get.”

She hung up on her cousin’s laughter and continued watching the top contestant to fulfill all her fantasies dress. Under an idyllic trance, she visualized the rest of him when he was in the shower. Excitement hurled through her at the thought of getting a peek at Mr. Buff in the wet room. A streak of unbidden desire whisked through her veins and raced down to her cunt.

Her brain, better than any digital calendar, had recorded his schedule down to the minute. Each morning, he walked into his office wearing his workout gear. In running shorts and tank top, his body glistened with perspiration. Every time she got a glimpse of all that sweat-covered brawn, her nipples pebbled.

In wide-eyed enthrallment, she watched him head into the bathroom attached to his office to shower. Every single day it was the same. He walked out in his suit pants but never the shirt. She wondered if he had some kind of conspiracy against her hormones. The display of contracting muscle made her breath hitch.

His powerful back and amazing, tight ass were sending out Morse code signals, beguiling and inciting her interest.

His white, tailored dress shirt cut the visual feast short. She had to bite back the urge to scream. Not that he would hear her, but her coworkers sure would.

Why not just go over there and ask the man out? Typically, she would have done that already. Found out his name, instead of just calling the poor, sexy, strapping creature Mr. Buff, at the very least. “Go after what you want” was her motto in every aspect of her life; she was a self-assured woman. Until recently, she didn’t lack self-confidence. Thanks to her ex, her confidence had taken a whipping some months back.

Jerk-off Jack had been cheating, and the confrontation that followed was not pretty. Questions that had never existed before rose with his words: “You’re a control freak, Alexandra. No man wants a woman telling him what to do in the sack. Sometimes I want to be the one leading. You’re too aggressive. You’re a good fuck, but not someone I could ever be with long term. I even wonder if you’re faking it at times.” Oh yeah, Jerk-off Jack had definitely let loose.

Would she be able to find a man who would want her, deal with her for who she was and not try to change her? At thirty-three she was tired of the dating scene. Was it so wrong that she wanted to meet someone and maybe settle down?

Alexandria refocused her mind, her vision still glued to Mr. Buff. Oh shit. He was watching her. Heat crawled across her skin and settled over her cheeks. Embarrassed, she gave him the usual small smile and microsecond wave.

His wicked grin turned the man from handsome to outright gorgeous when he waved back. Balling and holding papers in a death grip, she dropped her gaze. All she needed was for the man to think she had some kind of sick fetish for watching him.

Hex and the Single Witch
Vehicle City Vampires Book One
By Roxanne Rhoads
1/2
Anwyn Rose is descended from a long line of powerful witches yet she can barely cast spells young witchlings have mastered. She has one functioning witch gift, the power of knowing, which she puts to good use as a Detective on Flint’s Preternatural Investigation Team.

It’s a new era in Vehicle City, supernaturals are running the town. The P.I.T has their hands full with paranormal crimes. Top priority is a serial killer, who appears to be a vampire, draining young women in the city.

Anwyn is on the case with her sexy partner Detective Mike Malone. Complicating things is her relationship Galen, a vampire who looks more guilty than innocent, although Anwyn trusts her instincts even if her power is on the fritz.

Mysterious spells, compromising situations, and a possible demon on the loose make it hard to focus on the case, but Anwyn has to make things right before the human police execute the wrong vampire.

Hex and the Single Witch contains magick, a little bit of mystery, a lot of supernatural mayhem, and a sexy love triangle that will leave you wanting more.

REVIEW:

Hex and the Single Witch is a tale about a single witch that finds herself caught in the middle of some supernatural murders where one side of her love triangle could be the murderer.

First let’s start off with the love triangle part. Anwyn the young and lovely witch has not one but two guys wanting her. I’m normally a sucker (no pun intended) for vampires but in this love triangle I was rooting for the human all the way. Where Galen the vamp didn’t do anything for me; I was fanning myself over the human alpha cop, Mike Malone.

I just felt like Mike and Anwyn had a better and real connection. Galen and Anwyn’s relationship just seemed too forced, seemed like the only thing that drawn them together was just plan lust and the fact that they were both non-humans.

As far as the murder mystery in the plot, it had me guessing the whole time; which I love when a book’s plot is not predictable. BRAVO to Ms. Rhodes for making me think while I read her book.

Hex and the Single Witch had a little bit of everything from romance, murder and snarky one liners. If you are looking for a quick, steamy and well fleshed out plot to read then you should give Anwyn, Mike and the others a go in the first book of the Vehicle City Vampires series.

Phineas, The Pervy Unicorn

Of all the characters I’ve written, probably none are quite as popular as a certain pervy unicorn by the name of Phineas. Equal parts obnoxious and noble, the diminutive beastie is far more complex then he usually lets on.

And he’s very, very observant. (And makes no bones about telling the other characters what he thinks, regardless of how inappropriate it may be.)

Although often used as comic relief, particularly in A Brush of Darkness, we do learn more of his reasons for being where he is in A Sliver of Shadow…and finally we see his true purpose come to light in A Trace of Moonlight. (And not without a little sacrifice on his part.)

That being said, I get a lot of questions about him – where he comes from, how old he is, what’s his favorite movie, you name it! So here’s a basic character sheet:

Phineas:

Species:  Unicorn, of the miniature variety. Stands about 18 inches tall at the shoulder, though he’s fond of lying about it, so don’t expect a straight answer. I wouldn’t ask him about his height at all, frankly. It’s a sensitive subject, though he’s very apt at using his small size to find out information. He’s used to be overlooked due his small stature and uses it to his advantage.

Physical:  Typical medieval sort of unicorn – cloven hooves, lion’s tail, bearded. All white, except for his blue eyes. Sometimes wears a silver chain with a blue aquamarine around his neck.

Age:  Probably around 1000. Part of the reasons he’s so crotchety and jaded. He was more or less pulled out of retirement to get involved with Abby, and while he doesn’t regret that, he *is* feeling his age a bit more these days.

Eats:  Anything. Fond of bacon and rum, in particular, but isn’t overly picky. Obviously somewhat carnivorous. Don’t ask him about this either.

Likes:  Porn, in particular wombat, though he will watch anything. Rolling around in Abby’s underwear drawer. Biting people on the ass. Masturbating in suitcases. Has a fondness for reading e e Cummings poetry, but won’t admit it. Also likes babies. (Not to eat, mind – he tones down his more unsavory side in the presence of the truly innocent.)

He enjoys playing video games, thought it’s really anyone’s guess how he manipulates the keyboard that well. If you ask him how, you’re going to get an answer involving his genitalia. Fair warning.

Dislikes:  Virgins.

Favs:

Movie:  He’s a sucker for classic B&W, but secretly enjoys The Last Unicorn, because Amalthea is a total babe.

Music:  He’s partial to Lady Ga Ga

Book:  Lady Chatterly’s Lover

Drinking from the waters of lethe and offering herself up as Faerie’s sacrificial Tithe …these just might be the least of Abby Sinclair’s problems.

Abby’s pact with a demon—whether or not she remembers making it—is binding, so she’d better count herself lucky that (in the words of a daemon who knows better) there’s nearly always a loophole. But her friends’ reckless attempts to free her, well intentioned though they may be, set off a disastrous chain of events. In no time at all, Abby turns her incubus lover mortal and gets herself killed, cursed, and married to an elven prince whose mother wants her dead. She might have even been able to recover from all that had she not lost the Key to the CrossRoads to her mortal enemy, who promptly uses his restored power to wreak havoc on the OtherWorld and put its very existence in jeopardy.

Only one person can make things right again, but to find her, Abby must place her trust in allies of mixed loyalties, and conquer her nightmares once and for all.

A marine biologist in a former life, Allison Pang turned to a life of crime to finance her wild spending habits and need to collect Faberge eggs. A cat thief of notable repute, she spends her days sleeping and nights scaling walls and wooing dancing boys….Well, at least the marine biology part is true. But she was taloned by a hawk once. She also loves Hello Kitty, sparkly shoes, and gorgeous violinists.

She spends her days in Northern Virginia working as a cube grunt and her nights waiting on her kids and cats, punctuated by the occasional husbandly serenade. Sometimes she even manages to write. Mostly she just makes it up as she goes.
