They’re back…. The team of Molly Harper and Amanda Ronconi never fails to entertain me. Between Harper’s witty writing and Ronconi’s spot on narration, A Witch’s Handbook to Kisses and Curses is full of flirty fun between an out-of-town witch, Nola Leary and a sexy handyman, Jed Trudeau.

Nola, moved to Ireland from Boston after the death of her father at a young age. So she has an interesting mix of accents (which Ronconi pulls it off beautifully). Nola’s Irish side of the family has been in a feud with Kerrigans (they’re not ice skaters) another witch family for centuries. Because of this feud Nola returns to the States to find 4 magical artifacts that her family was tasked with guarding from the other family. This brings her to Half Moon Hollow, Kentucky. For such a small town it has a rather large supernatural population. There are vampires and werewolves and now a witch. Who knows what other supes could be found in the hollow……

After Nola moves into a rental she meets her sexy and often without a shirt neighbor, Jed. He and a small crew is working on the house they both rent from none other than Dick Chaney (the vampire not the former vice president). One thing leaves to another and the budding friend/romance takes place. But don’t think this is a sweet romance; it’s a Molly Harper book after all. Harper loves putting her characters through some of the most funny and embarrassing situations. Case in point the two meet while Nola climbing Jed like a tree while running from some scary creature in her kitchen cabinets, wearing only her bath towel.

So in true Harper fashion there are funny one-liners about pop culture from the freaky sleeping stalker, Edward Cullen to Black Dagger Brotherhood references and even a tip of the hat to one of Harper’s other series, you know the one about werewolf romance set in Alaska. ;)

Also Jane Jameson series might be done but Jane fans will be delighted to know that her motley crew shows up quite a bit in this newest installment in the Half Moon Hollow series helping Nola in her quest to find the 4 magical items she came to the hollow for.

If you’re looking for a side splitting read/listen you NEED to check out Molly Harper. I highly recommend ALL of her books. Oh in case you are ordering this series could be read in order but I recommend you starting with the Jane Jameson series just so you will have a better understanding of the background on those characters since the pop up throughout this series.

REVIEW:

I don't do a lot of anthologies but when Audible.com offered up this Molly Harper short for FREE I grabbed it up since it was the only story I wanted to read in the anthology.

Undead Sublet is a short story that takes place in Half Moon Hollow, the home town of Jane Jameson and if you are a fan of her series you should check out this story plus the other ones in the spin off series.

And since Undead Sublet takes place in Jane's town we get to see Jane and some of her friends while Tess is on sabbatical from her nervous breakdown from work. Tess rents a house from an overly perky lady in hopes of getting reason and relaxation so she can get back to work in her Chicago restaurant.

But Tess finds herself sharing the house with Sam, the undead and soon to be ex-husband of said perky lady. Tess is pissed when she finds out that Sam's ex-wife lied to her and won't give her the rent money back. Tess is low on funds and has no where else to go for the month.

So with no other choice Tess lets Sam know that she is staying right were she is and that he can move out. One thing leads to another and the two are trying to punk the other enough to get them to leave. But during their turf war a friendship blooms. And after Tess spikes Sam's blood with pepper juice the two share one hot kiss and the friendship starts turning into something more.

If you are a fan of Molly Harper or thought about checking her out this is a quick, fun and romantic read to introduction to her sexy and snark writing.


Narration Note: While Sophie Eastlake does a fine job of the narration I did miss the usual narration by Amanda Ronconi that does the other books.

Cal - who would be devastatingly sexy, if Iris allowed herself to think that way - offers Iris a hefty fee for hiding him at her place until he figures out who wants him permanently dead. Even though he’s imperious, unfriendly and doesn't seem to understand the difference between "employee" and "servant," Iris agrees, and finds herself breaking more and more of her own rules to help him - particularly those concerning nudity.

Turns out what her quiet little life needed was some intrigue & romance—in the form of her very own stray vampire.

REVIEW:

As always Molly Harper has brought the snark and sassy in The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires. This is the second book in the Half Moon Hollow series, which is a spin-off from Harper’s Jane Jameson series.


TCFSV almost read like the 1st book in the spin-off series instead of the second. There was more mention of Jane in this one than Driving Mr. Dead. And Iris was thinking of adding a transport service to her vampire concierge business. But Driving Mr. Dead was the start of the transport service so I wonder if Harper wrote TCFSV before or at the same time she wrote DMD. It was a little confusing but not enough to mess with my head. In any account you can read either book first and be ok.


I always enjoy Harper’s humor in her books and she delivers in TCFSV. But I found myself thinking that Iris and Jane (main character from the JJ series) was pretty much the same character in some ways. But that might have to do with the fact that I’ve listened to Jane’s books on audio and TCFSV and they have the same narrator. Although I love Amanda Ronconi it can be a bit confusing listening to Harper’s books since she narrates all of them. I have remind myself with each series that this is a different character. So if I had read TCFSV like I did DMD I most likely would not have felt like Iris and Jane were the same character.

Like in all of Harper’s PNR books there is a mystery to be solved and a romance that grows between the heroine and the uber sexy male vampire. I like the fact that we get glimpses of other characters in the Half Moon Hollow world through this spin-off series. With each story we get from the small town it looks like if Harper continues the town will be nothing but a super natural town full of vampires and werewolves. Which would be super fine by me; all of Harper’s characters are fun and just enough sexiness to them that I would totally love to live in Half Moon Hollow.

REVIEW:

Driving Mr. Dead is a great fast read with Harper’s usual mix of humor and sexiness. Fans of the Jane Jameson series will want to check out the novella. We get a short and funny scene with Dick and a few mentions of Jane. But if you have not read the JJ series you can still read Driving Mr. Dead and not be lost.

Miranda Puckett is a fun loving gal that is having a bad time deciding wither to get back with her ex-fiance. In order to get a little alone time and space from him to think, she takes a job with her friend’s transport company. They just happen to transport vampires.

Miranda’s first client, Collin, is an anal-retentive, shut-in vampire that lives in the middle of no where. And in true Miranda style she is late picking him up for his cross country trip from Washington State to Half-Moon Hollow, KY.

The trip is full of funny mishaps and a budding romance between “wild child” Miranda and the up tied but still sexy, Collin. I couldn’t help but think of the movie Due Date while reading this novella, like in the movie everything that could go wrong on this road trip happened. If you are looking for a fun and romantic read with a little bite then give Molly Harper’s Driving Mr. Dead a spin.

The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf takes places a little time after How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf and some of the events that happened in HFNW has brought Dr. Nick Thatcher to town. He is a nerdy yet sexy and lovable scientist that has made it his mission in life to prove that supernatural creatures like werewolves exist.

Maggie Graham is the alpha of the local werewolf pack in Grundy, Alaska and Nick being in town causes all kinds of problems for her. She can’t let a human come in and expose her family and pack. Not only is this human a danger to Maggie in the “business” sense but he also a hazard to her heart.

Maggie and Nick are instantly attracted to each other but Maggie tries to fight it. Since Maggie is the alpha it is expected that she will mate with another wolf to continue the werewolf bloodline. She tries to do what she thinks is the best thing for the pack instead of making herself happy.

But the few choices that Maggie has in the male werewolf department is not appealing to her. There is Lee from a distance relative pack that is trying to get Maggie’s paw in marriage. Sure he’s easy on the eyes but he’s dumber than a box of rocks. Then there is Clay; a Canada wolf that joined the pack about a year ago. On paper he is the perfect mate for Maggie but she just doesn’t have those things of feelings for him.

So we have a tug and pull of emotions and love interests going on in The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf but there is also a mystery going on. Someone keeps trying to hurt Maggie; first her brakes on her truck are cut and then someone sets a fire to her office. Other odd things keep happening through the story.

But by the end of the story everything is nicely tied up on all fronts. I’m not sure if there will be more in the series but if you enjoy smart ass characters and light funny romances with a paranormal twist you should check out this series.


Narration Note: I love the narrator (Amanda Ronconi) but because she also narrates Harper's Jane Jameson Series, I had a little hard time switching gears and remembering "This is not Jane" for the first few chapters.

Molly Harper never fails to bring the snark and a pinch of sexy to her loveable characters. So I was excited to jump into another light and fun read with Nice Girls Don’t Bite Their Neighbors.

Jane and the group are back for another fun filled mystery. This time around Jane is dealing with her own wedding planning issues, more dead relatives, and being a new mother so to speak.

Seems that someone always wants to kill or at least maim Jane. And she usually makes things worse by running off by herself to solve the mystery of who it is. But this time Jane is showing her maturity by letting her friends do the heavy lifting in the department of who wants Jane dead.

Dick nodded. "I was thinking official 'Keep Jane from Being Murdered Task Force' T-shirts.”

Jane gets to see how life is as a sire when she helps out a follow Half Moon Hollow citizen. And it’s funny as hell to see her and the gang deal with the new member to the family.

At some point, your child may challenge you to a fight. Try not to beat the childe too badly. Imagine having your mother knock you into unconsciousness. It would be emotionally scarring on several levels.

So if you are a fan of the series you will want to pick this one up if you have not already. And if you have not started the series I recommended to anyone that likes a fun paranormal light read with laughs on just about every page.

REVIEW:

I am really enjoying this series; each book gets funnier and funnier. There is just enough mystery to the plots to keep you reading/listening to see who the bad guy is in each book. After reading a lot of darker books lately it’s nice to take a step back and enjoy the lightness of Harper’s world she has created in the Nice Girls series.
 
Nice Girls Don’t Live Forever picks up not long after Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men ended. Jolene and Zeb are married and expecting a baby. Jane and Gabriel are still having some relationship issues. And we get a good healthy dose of my favorite character in the series, Dick.

Were as each chapter in Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men started with a witty quote from the book about this one has golden nuggets of wisdom from Love Bites: A Female Vampire Guide to Less Destructive Relationship.

This series has plenty of pop culture digs but I LOVE, LOVE, the reference to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and how Jane thought about finding James Marsters (aka Spike) and making him her love monkey. Come if vampires were real wouldn't we all hunt down our favorite vamp actor and turn him.

"Mmm. I wonder if it would be unethical for me to turn James Marsters and then force him to fake the accent and then make him my love monkey?"

The book starts out with Jane and Gabriel on vacation in Europe but it's not as fun or romantic as it sounds. After some mishaps, they return home and the weirdness that is Jane's life gets into full swing. There is ongoing problems with family members and some new adventures for Jane and a group of Stepford Wives that run the Chamber of Commerce in Half Moon Hollow.

Much like the other books in the series, I would highly recommend Nice Girls Don't Live Forever to anyone that is a fan of snarky light reads about a vamp chick that is just trying to adjusted to her new undead life.

Between a freaked-out groom-to-be, his hostile werewolf in-laws, and Zeb's mother, hell-bent on seeing Jane walk the aisle with Zeb, Jane's got the feeling she's just rearranging the proverbial deck chairs.

REVIEW:

I've read a lot of vampire books, some dark, some smut filled and it's nice to read and it’s nice to take a break from some of the darker Urban Fantasy ones to enjoy a light funny read. With vampires are named Dick Cheney (not the ex-vice prez) how can it not make you laugh.

In this installment of the series the gang deals with Zeb and Jolene’s wedding. Let me just say if I had a family that was as nosey as Jane, Zeb and Jolene’s I would have moved or gone to jail for killing a few of them. It actually got to the point to where it got a little annoying. I kept thing that all three of them needed to grow a part of balls and stand up to their families.

Each chapter starts with a saying from the book “Mating Rituals and Love Customs of the Were”. This helps set the mood for the wedding horrors for that following chapter.

Zeb starts acting weird halfway through the book but I quickly figure out what’s going on and wait to see how long it takes our main characters to get on board with the answer to WTH is wrong with him. Another character starts acting a bit like a stalker towards Jane is her high school crush, Adam. First he comes off sweet and seems to have taken a real liking to Jane the adult when he didn’t give Jane the teenager a second thought. Just when you think there might be a love triangle starting it ends when Jane uses her very spotty mind reading trick.

Jane and Gabriel’s relationship is far from perfect and things start to get even rockier towards the end of the book which leaves a lot of unanswered questions for Jane. But I’ve already started the 3rd book and it seems that the relationship problems that start in Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men are the setup for the main plot for Nice Girls Don’t Live Forever.

So in a nut shell NGDDD is about horrors of everything that surrounds planning a wedding and having to wear the ugliest braids maid dress and the ups and downs of relationships; plus controlling yourself enough to keep from killing your family.

She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?

REVIEW:

I've had this series on my TBR list for awhile and after reading How to Flirt With a Naked Werewolf by Harper I knew that I had to move this series up my reading list. Then my lovely husband got me a 12 months membership to Audible.com for my birthday, so Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs was my 1st "purchase".

I love the sarcastic humor that Harper uses in her books. Nice Girls is a fun light hearted read with mystery and romance set in the South were vamps are out to the public. Jane is turned in order to save her life but she does an excellent job of adapting to her new life. Plus it doesn't hurt that her sire is the yummy Gabriel.

Nice Girls reminded me of a mix between Undead Series by Davidson, Broken Heart Series by Bardsley and a touch of Sookie Stackhouse with the mention of fake bottled blood.

Not only did I enjoy the characters and plot line; but I found the narrator fun to listen to. She did the southern accent justice. And with me being from Arkansas, I've heard some really bad fake southern accents before. She didn't sound like Forrest Gump while reading the book. She added the extra twang when needed without over doing it.

I'm looking forward to downloading the rest of the series. Look for my reviews of more Molly Harper books in the near future.

REVIEW:

I've had Molly Harper's "Good Girls" series on my shelf for a while but I've not gotten around to reading them yet but after borrowing "How to Flirt With a Naked Werewolf" (HFNW) from a friend I will have to move them up my TBR list.


HFNW was a fun and light read about Mo, a soon to be 30 old year that has to move from Mississippi all the way to Grundy Alaska, in order to get away from her nosey tree hugging parents to have her own life.


Even though Mo is an outsider in Grundy she falls in step with the locals very fast when she takes a job at the local saloon as the cook. Mo makes friends with everyone in town, with the exception of the surly, dark and handsome hunting guide, Cooper.


But Mo and Copper's relationship changes when he shows up one night on her porch with a bear trap on his ankle and butt naked. Mo helps Cooper out of the bear trap and watches over him all night while he recovers.


A romance builds between the two while reports of mysterious killings and missing people keep popping up around the small Alaskan town.


Ms. Harper did an superb job keeping me entertained and laughing while reading HFNW. She uses a grand mix humor and sarcasm with a dash of sexiness to bring her characters to life. I've added Molly Harper to my must buy list, if all her books are this funny and enjoyable I can't lose picking up anything she writes.
